The world is a weird place.

Ever since we learned about the Panopticon in class I've caught myself always noticing where the cameras are in the places I frequently go too. Also, I've been wondering a lot more if there is actually someone watching me when I look at these cameras. Has this happened to anyone else since gaining this knowledge?

Today's soci class was really interesting. Even though it's something I've thought of before, today in class it was not something that I really thought about when it was mentioned in class. We watched a researcher present her findings on hook up culture. One piece of info that she presented was the fact that there's a double standard for guys and girls who hook up. This double standard could be seen as a patriarchal way of holding power over women. It's a standard that's saying men can have as many exploits as they want, but women must be much more exclusive. Such a standard can also be seen as oppressive to women in they fact that it controls, or at least influences their actions, depending on how much they care about the thoughts others carry of them.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to run away. Whenever it rains like it is today, I wonder what I'd find if I just left. I also wonder who'd miss me, if anyone besides my family. I wonder if it'd help me find myself... Because ya know, that's something that should happen to all of us. At some point at least.
