I’m proud to say I was the only non-native to attend the #Chitimacha Tribal School on the reservation where I spent my adolescence. Looking back this #TBT I remember my classmates, the village that raised me, their love, acceptance & most of all their influence ✊️ (at Chitimacha Tribe School)

In some ways we’ve come a long way since 1973, in other ways we certainly have not, but in this new day of diversity in film, I’ve never been more hopeful for humanity and, in turn, I want to afford the village that raised me the same opportunities the New Orleans film industry did w/ film tax incentives, thus inspire a new generation of indigenous filmmakers, in hopes of giving the power of storytelling back to the original storytellers, because it’s the only way I see a chance to affect change on a global scale and hopefully play my part to help save the culture that once saved me.
