I so badly want to reconnect with Native Culture because I am Native myself, but I feel so insecure about it cuz of shit like Blood Quantum and that. There's nothing wrong with being Native, of course, but I dont know if I even deserve to be Native cuz of how easily I would be accused of not being Native cuz I dont have 'full' blood or whatever the hell. I dont know if I deserve to know more about my culture. I dont know if I deserve to have a card, or find my tribes (Chickasaw and Creek) and fully join them. I so badly want to reconnect. But I dont know if I deserve it.
I dunno. I wanna have Native friends too and get to know more Native people but I know next to nothing about even my own tribes cuz I was raised by a non-native mother. I dont know if I DESERVE Native friends. I want to maybe see if theres any other Native people in my family still living aside from my Grandma, but thats gonna be hard cuz my Grandma hardly sees me anyway, and the one other person (my dad) who could maybe tell me more about my culture is dead. I dont know what to do or where to start.
This sucks. I like being Native, but I dont know if I deserve to be because I'm not Native 'enough'. It hurts.
On this day in 1952, during the Korean War, U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force pilots flew over 1,200 sorties in one of the largest aerial attacks since WWII. They hammered North Korean hydroelectric plants at Suiho, Chosen, Fusen, and Kyosen — striking critical enemy infrastructure. Marines in the air, delivering firepower. I've had this one idea for months now, which I would love to do, but I'm not sure how feasible it would be (at least for me)
I want to try translating, at least part of, the Galactic Defense Force Pitch Animatic into Chickasaw (a language that I'm trying to learn again since it's a part of my cultural heritage)
Some of the problems with this though is that
1. I don't know the language that well yet (I've gotten through some of the basics in past learning attempts, but I'm determined to not give up and eventually reach fluency)
2. Translating a sci-fi show into an old endangered language means that some words used in it might not exist yet in that language so there's a chance I might have to make new words if I can't find an existing translation
3. There are several sounds in English that aren't used in Chickasaw, so I will have to translate certain character names to be pronounceable. X, r, and g don't exist in Chickasaw (Sage, Flitter, Widget, Axel, and Equinox would all need to be given different names, almost every GDF character would need one) (I guess I don't HAVE to translate the names, I just want it to be understood well in Chickasaw)
Overall, it feels pretty out of my league right now. But I REALLY want to translate, at least part of, the pitch animatic at some point. Being able to translate it into Chickasaw well, would definitely be proof I'd gotten a good grasp on the language

Being Shilombish Toklo’ is not a single identity, but a moving, shifting, ever-evolving prayer.

Also, apologies for any mistakes I may make about Native culture. I've been so disconnected all my life that there are some things I still dont know and am still learning about./gen
I always panic when I see a photo of a Native elder on a tribal social media page or through the internal email/news systems. Like "Oh my God did Gwen Loksi Billy die?? 😭" and then the post is about how Gwen Loksi Billy is telling a story in Chickasaw about making frybread with her mother. 🙂 Emotional fucking rollercoaster.
