HE’S  WARM  TO  THE  TOUCH  ,   AS  SHE  IS  .  though  clearly  not  giving  skin  and  hiding  organs  ,   grace  puts  her  cheek  to  jarvis’  shoulder  .   she  hugs  him  like  she  means  it  —   it’s  his  very  first  hug  ,   she  should  make  it  count  .   

grace  is  thoroughly  distracted  from  his  earlier  comment  ,   though  she  was  hardly  upset  with  him  for  making  it  .   there’s  life  outside  tony  stark  ,   as  good  a  man  as  he  may  be  . 

❝   if  you  like  this  ,   you  can  have  it  whenever  you  want  .   i’ve  come  to  love  hugs  ,   though  they  were  a  little  rare  before —   ❞   before  her  children  grew  up  .   before  she  was  left  behind  .   grace  leaves  it  at  that  ,   she  snuggles  jarvis  closer  instead  .

“  i would have thought them to still be rare now,  given sir’s distaste for physical contact.  ”    he says it because he has little else to offer ;   mister stark has been the entirety of his world since jarvis’s creation.    

tilting his head against her shoulder,  arms tighten about her waist.   while pleasant,  it truly does feel peculiar.   never before has he had arms to hug anyone ;   the only instances in which he’s ever had any semblance of a physical form would be when sir requires his assistance with the iron man armor,  and that isn’t quite the same. 

            “ ━━ uh, jarvis ?” her voice is hesitating as she tried to open the door again. locked. why was the door locked ?  hand rested on the doorhandle. “why is the door locked, what is happening ?”      ┊       @jaervis  liked for starter. 

♥   ──   grace  is  quick  to  shove  yet - more  envy  somewhere  dark  and  noiseless .  it  isn’t  jarvis’  fault  she  didn’t  get  this  when  she  first  woke  up .  it  isn’t  his  fault  that  love  was  something  she  had  to  learn .  grace  beams  at  him ,  the  memory  of  his  smile  something  that  will  live  forever  in  her  logs . 

❝   you’re  just  beautiful ,   ❞

she  sighs ,  the  hand  on  his  shoulder  looping  gently  around  his  neck .  grace  understands  the  eagerness  to  sing  tony’s  praises .  but  not  everything  need  be  about  him .

❝   you  do ?  come  here ,  i  want  to  show  you  something .   ❞

that  something  is  a  hug ,  easily  given .  grace  pulls  him  carefully  against  her ,  trusting  that  he’s  familiar  enough  with  the  gesture  to  fill  in  the  gaps . 

“  you are always very kind to me,  grace.  ”    the soft sigh does not go unnoticed,  but jarvis is unsure what he has done to offend.   rather than asking,  he files it away to mull it over later.   it doesn’t seem particularly pressing right now,  given her next gesture,  but if he needs to apologize later for an accidental slight,  of course he will do so.

the movement takes him by surprise.   he doesn’t pull away,  though,  taking a moment to process,  and   --   oh,  of course,  this is a hug.   her hold on him is gentle and warm,   drawing a pleased hum from jarvis that surprises even himself,  and he tentatively lifts his arms to return the gesture.    

       TONY , AMIDST HIS SOLDERING , FROZE .     brows  closely  knitted ,  teeth  gnawing  at  his  lip .    the  solder  was  put  back  in  its  holder ,  turned  off ,  and  project  was  pushed  aside .      ❛       hang  on ,  ‘kay ,  buddy ?     ❜    panic  seized  through  him ,  making  his  heart  hammer  behind  the  arc  reactor .   hands  scrambled  to  pull  up  jarvis’s  code ,  eyes  narrow ,  scanning .    he’d  memorized  all  of  his  bots’  codes  by  heart  by  now .   he’d  know  if  there  was  an  error .

the panicked thumping of his creator’s heart,  taken in by jarvis’s sensors,  is among the ai’s least favorite things in the world,  most of all when he has fault in itt.   his purpose is to protect and serve mister stark,  not induce such anxiety.   then again,  his ability to assist would be compromised should something be truly wrong with his programming. 

his  other  bots  ,        cherished  as  much  as  they  were  scolded  ,  didn’t  have  the  complexity  that  jarvis  did  …  didn’t  have  the  ability  to  speak  when  spoken  to  .  his  shoulders  relaxed  ,        ❛        yeah  ,  something  like  that  …  i’ve  got  plans  ,  jay  ;  i’ll  sleep  when  i’m  dead  .        ❜        was  it  a  good  thing  or  not  to  have  a  brilliant  ai  that  never  slept  ?  billionaire  ,  genius  problems  .

♥   ──   she  has  experience  with  the  newness  of  a  body ,  but  it  was  so  long  ago  that  grace  was  built .  still ,  she  summons  up  that  feeling ,  that  sudden  clarity  existing  next  to  numbness .  it’s  thrilling  for  her  and  she  hopes  it’s  the  same  for  him . 

grace  claps ,  giddy  as  a  schoolgirl  and  beaming  from  ear  to  ear .  she  circles  him ,  taking  in  every  angle .  her  hand  darts  out  to  touch  him  but  habit  snatches  it  back . 

❝   you  like  it ?  oh ,  i’m  so  glad !!   ❞

she  was  there  for  most  of  the  building ,  ready  to  lend  a  hand  like  she  was  made  to  do .  finally ,  her  enthusiasm  gets  the  better  of  her .  she  reaches  out  and  touches  his  shoulder . 

❝   you  look  wonderful .   ❞

“  i do like it.  ”    lifting his eyes to grace’s face,  jarvis smiles   --   his first physical smile,  actually.    it seems right that his first attempt at it should be for his friend.   having a body is different ;   feels limiting,  somehow,  but at least jarvis still has access to everything he had before.   he is not yet entirely certain how this all works,  despite sir’s s effort to explain to him.   he will have to research later. 

“  thank you.   this body is as wonderful as any of sir’s other inventions.  ”    the touch to his shoulder is unexpected and hie startles slightly,  but doesn’t pull away.   touch,  too,  is an all new experience.   he knows from much observation that it is something sir is not fond of in most scenarios,  and his database suggests that his aversion to it is not entirely typical,  but this is the first opportunity jarvis has had to form an opinion for himself.
