I have a lot of thoughts. Those for another time.

You know what I do wanna talk about though? I looked at the Reddit discussion thread. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a blatantly transphobic reading since people denying Mizuki Akiyama is trans.

They gave Jax every single deeply closeted transfem allegory IN THE BOOK and people still refuse to consider it because god forbid a complex self-sabotaging emotionally gaslighting hurt jerk-not-jerk be trans, right? God forbid every single ounce of deeply closeted transfem rep written BY A TRANS WOMAN isn’t a ball of sunshine and shows complexity and is — you guessed it — still trans.

I’ll be using they/them neutral here for the sake of closeted-not-out yet speak, under the direct presumption of Jax being so closeted they deny it themselves and reject the possibility.

Jax’s human counterpart not being out as trans? Notice how their face is covered in every picture with long hair — now obviously we have Jax as emo but I think the note here is how that in and of itself is an allegory for people to come to their own conclusions on. Oh, and uh, the song during Jax’s sequence. Using ‘she’? That wasn’t subtle.

Genuinely, I read that thread just assuming everyone was blatantly transphobic or hates TADC so much anything they didn’t want to happen happening felt like the show failed them instead of just… not taking the route THEY expected.

I’m sure it’ll be easier with pic examples when it drops on YouTube. But man. Jax saying something vulnerable when their masculinity was insulted to “explain themself” and their mom, regardless of her initial reaction, hugging them about what they revealed? Jax going pink and soft when Ribbit put a bow on them until Kaufmo came and suddenly they quickly went into embarrassment and denial? People really refuse to acknowledge the trans allegory staring them dead in the face because they hate Jax? Don’t even get me started on how Maid Jax is used here and what every version of Jax says about their inner state and how they cope/deflect people. (bonus, god forbid fans hate a trans character, so what better than to deny their transness since it wasn’t explicitly stated?? I can’t get with Jax hate anyway, but jeez, it’s like they can’t even consume Jax’s character rationally)

AND I LOVED IT!! I DON’T CARE WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT GLITCH! I DON’T CARE WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT GOOSEWORX! THIS SERIES AND ITS FINALE WAS WHAT I NEEDED AFTER BEING SO ANGRY AND SO BURNT OUT BY THE STATE OF THE WORLD! 😭❤️❤️
