I heard so much about how gruesome the prison scene between Jamie and Black Jack was. How some people couldn't bear to watch it. đ How disgusting, and yada yada yada yada.
One would have thought, that the culmination of a season long obsession, escalating to mutilation and rape, is something people WOULD NOT be able to stomach because the series was so sensible and void of rape.
One would think.
Imagine my surprise when I've finally stared the show, and Clair Beauchamp, the only woman in every episode, has been sexually assaulted (and actually raped, twice) almost six times now.
And I'm only in episode 8. Two men, who aren't either of her husbands, have successfully penetrated this woman. One of them held a knife to her nipple and based on what he's done to other people, we know he would have mutilated her if he wasn't stopped.
Everywhere she goes, someone wants to fuck her without her consent. And she knows this isn't a complement.
The show let's us know that this is gruesome. Each and every encounter is worse than the last.
And I'm only 8 episodes in.
I find it funny that whenever I see a video about this show, people would comment about how they couldn't watch "that scene". How they always skipped it because it was too much. Too graphic. Too horrible.
Too bad to see a strong man like Jamie be reduced to the very thing they'd watched Clair endure. I haven't gotten there yet, so, I imagine that she'll receive more advances before Jamie's turn.
And yet, people don't mention what happens to her. They can stomach it. It's fine to watch the women on the show be treated by cattle.
But no. Not Jamie. Not a man.

Going back to watch movies that feature 2 "close friends" of the same gender, who have to deal with one friend falling for the other friend's opposite gender sibling, has made me realise how gay the whole world is.
Because stories will depict these two best friends as people who will die for each other. Who can't go a day without seeing each. Who share everything. Who box out other people from the friendship because "This is my person." Who are militant in their protection of one another.
Stories will portray them this way, then the biggest conflict in their relationship would be that one friend finds their bestie's sibling (someone who looks a dnsounds exactly like them, but opp. gender) incredibly sexy enough to want to have sex with them.
Stories will do this and bend over backwards to convince the audience that these two are "just frienss"
But, then there's "Maurice" who goes and does the opposite.
Tells us the boys are gay for each other but one wouldn't mind settling down for the exact sister who is said to sound and look and be like his best friend.
I was watching the movie and couldn't help thinking of the boys from "You got served".
I will not be explaining further.
I'll preface this by saying that I am aware that an ability to fight has little to do with size. I know.
However, as someone who is usually irritated by bls and their stupid hard-on for size difference, for once, I found myself wishing Jules was... smaller?
Every single time Preston came at him, I was screaming for Jules to punch the daylights out of him and beat Preston to a pulp. Took me viewing the movie a second time to not get angry at the fact that someone as huge as Jules was letting that puffy twink push him around.
And I say this as someone who used to be a 5ft9, 250pounds athlete (retired), the thought of someone hitting me and me doing nothing about it, regardless of the number of people involved, rubs my skin raw!!!!!
And Jules is taller than me. Shit, he's bigger than Preston. He might not kill a dude, but he sure could wreck one. Or two.
When he was getting mouthy in the shop, at the beginning, I thought he'd fight back a little. Just a little.
I screamed my throat raw.
And a part of me thinks I might have been a bit more understanding if Jules was tiny. I know that's not fair to Jules as a victim.
Not everyone is violent. Not everyone wants to hurt other people. Even if those people deserve it.
I know.
But I find it strange that for once, I found myself wondering if the movie would have been a little easier to swallow if Jules *looked* like he couldn't slap that stupid man around.
I've got to respectfully disagree,
I don't think Preston's a Twink. If anything Jules and Toby are Twinks. Just because Jules is tall and quite well built it doesn't mean that he can fight. Imo that's an ignorant assumption. Aphrodite walks about the shop and pushes Preston away, bc in or out of drag Jules isn't a fighter, he's not about that life and Oz can clearly see that later on.
As a society people need to stop thinking that just bc Jules is Tall, or big or bc he's black that he can automatically fight, or that he's accustomed to violence. Bc Jules could be a middle class posh kid that hasn't ever thrown a punch in his life.
