“You must be a local. I’m partial to the moment when it all melts away. But I guess there is some beauty in the occasional snowfall.”

“I’m not, actually. Just...I’ve been here a couple of years, I guess. Truly local, perhaps I am not. But yeah, big fan of all that, not the mucky, melty bits on the ground.”

      “It’s disorienting, but beautiful,” he said, looking around at the white and darkening mush of footprints. “I’m not really used to it, so seeing is still a bit unreal. I take it’s a normal occurrence for you?”

    “it’s something alright.” tucker nods, eyeing the other man carefully. it’s better to get it out of the way sooner rather than later - seeing jacob again. 

meeting the other members was always a terrifying thought, post whatever the fuck happened that day on the field. jacob pretended to not know of them, but if there was one thing he knew, it was that the past always came back, sometimes in the most terrible ways. seeing tucker brought back childhood memories; the good ones. but there was a tickle, a suspicion in the back of his head; tucker was part of the brotherhood. “remember when we used to make these tall snowmen, for target practise? i always thought yours looked better.” he didn’t know what else to say. they could pretend to be strangers, right? “how have you been, buddy?”

Astrid was dreadfully bored already, and this little border situation was more than a bother to the vampire who was itching to get out of town, when she was bored it would only mean bad things after all. So, trying to stave off boredom she turned her attention to the closest person, hoping they would provide her with a distraction. “Would you like a strawberry? They’re not poisoned I promise.”

“Where I come from, having to state that fact usually means that they are. No offense, of course. I’m just a precocious dude.” Jacob looked at the aforementioned strawberries and shook his head. “Sorry, I’m allergic. But...thanks.”

“not really.” xander’s face blanked for a second before he refocused, offering the young man a shrug. “i’m sorry to hear that. were they someone close?”

“uhh...---my innocence, i suppose? if that counts? sorry mate, i’m just in one of those moods. my condolences to you too.”

“must be nice.” unfortunately for her, her own father had shown her all too well how to be compassionate during times of distress. not that she used it much, but it was a skill that was there. “i’m sure whoever planned this already has the moment of silence scheduled down to the second.” 

“sure it was. as nice as it was to “be a man” and “suck it up”. it wasn’t all that great.” jacob shrugged, looking around at the crowd. “yeah, i must imagine that’s part of the schedule. any moment now, they’ll ask us all to shut up.”

“no, but— i mean the ones who are serious about it.” she shook her head. her shoulder brushed against jacob’s arm as her weight leaned towards him. as they neared the memorial stone, she stopped walking to stand at the end of the line of people approaching it. lowering her voice, she continued, “i overheard some girl telling her dad that this sucks and she’d rather be at a bar.”

jacob sighed, nodding in agreement with libby. his arm went around her shoulders, squeezing it gently before he dropped the hand. they walked, side by side and in line at the memorial stone. an eyebrow rose at libby’s statement, and he looked around for this aforementioned girl. “well, i guess she’s attending a memorial of a different kind then, huh?”

     “sorry, is this seat free ??” nora nods to the empty chair at the table. “everywhere else is full.”

     “i’ve got no one to live for, again – can’t relate. it’s frustrating. but, i have to agree, it is a conflict of interest, at least in my case, it is,” she replied, nodding ever so slowly. it was worrying how fatally hyejin’s personality changed after she became one of the risen witches. a complete one-eighty. from fearful, obedient girl to someone who couldn’t care less about anything. 

     a sigh escaped her lips, eyes fixed at the man before her, “i wish i knew how to fix it, though,” jin added, matter of factly. “but, i suppose i wasn’t meant to posses such qualities, in the long run. everything human-like died right with me.” and this was an issue. if she could turn back time, she would definitely have taken a completely different approach. it was too late to make things work; she was stuck. “i’m… sorry for your hypothetical loss.”

“then i guess you’ve been doing longer than the rest of us.” jacob shrugged, his mouth moving to the side in a half smile of sorts. everyone had a tragedy attached to their lives in some way or other. not that jacob could relate; his life had been a tragedy till the day he came back as a werewolf. he was determined to make the most of it, even if he had to bury old demons in the dirt to do that.
