I was pleasantly surprised that I was actually very happy with a lot of my work when putting together my portfolio, I just need to have more confidence

Straight out the toy box, my alter ego is very much inspired by Bratz dolls and my interest in birds and characters that are able to fly. The red arms are inspired by the film I was a part of, showing my alter ego as both creative and frustrated (very much similiar to reality) and the shoes are inspired by my own wardrobe

Much more effective sound, a lot happier with this one, really realised how important sound is when editing this one - the motions seemed so much more impactful with the correct sound (eg the scissors and tearing of the chest)

Final version with sound, I used noises and sound effects that could be found at someones desk to fit with the ‘creation’ theme of the animation. This was the version that I presented at the crit, I managed to export this version without all of the sounds and some of the footage needs to be organised differently to be more effective. Overall a positive crit, need to cut out/re-organise a few clips and re edit the sound fully to be 100% happy with it

First version of the animation, using all the ‘good’ sections of animation, I pieced together a rough outline of the story before refining and removing a few sequences to make a cleaner story after this one

very pleased with the end sewing sequences will definitely use this. Perhaps, use the typwriter as a background shot?

Not sure what to use the hands for but i really like how they look - maybe I am focusing on aesthetics over narrative and I need to re - think how I am approaching this

Playing with duplicating and combining the footage in different ways to create new outcomes, as much as I enjoy how this looks I am unsure as to what this adds to the narrative so it is unlikely that I will get the opportunity to use this

Removing the stands and the background to see how the characters move in a white void.

Raw animation footage from day of tests

First day on set and first attempt at removing the green screen. Puppets needed the stands more often than I expected but After Effects ended up being easier to use than predicted so wasn’t too hard to remove.

Opting for a more experimental approach, I noted down many different scenes and worked out how I could form that into the narrative I was trying to create. I could then take this to the animation and create lots of small scenes that I could later cut together.

The final puppets ended up being more poseable than I expected which was a pleasant surprise. The magnets I added to their feet really helped to make them stand up and I quickly realised that they can be incredibly expressive

Adding the finishing touches.

Beginning to dress the armatures, time consuming but not overly complicated with the exception of the hands/fingers which were fiddly.

Found success with my second set of armatures, with a thicker stronger spine and being smaller in size there were much more sturdy. I created the  body parts out of clay and the wire is a soft garden wire which I chose as I felt it wouldn’t show through fabric as much
