Drinneys Observatory
On a very rainy day…
Cairnwell Ring Cairn Portlethen
So this ring cairn was moved and reconstructed during building work here. I don’t personally think that should have been allowed, but here it is anyway.
Autumn Forest walk (Car park off Cairn o’ Mount)
Lovely rainy day it was, added to the atmosphere.
Autumnal walk in Drumtochty woods
Happy boy in a puddle lol
And this weird fungus….
which close up looks like jellyfish!

Cove, Aberdeen
One random lunchtime recently, I took a picture into the sun. Not knowing how it might end… this was the result.
Sunhoney Stone Circle
I was right earlier when I thought about coming. It is definitely Autumn, but it isn’t ‘autumn enough’ to capture the essence of it yet on camera.
A trip to sunhoney is never a waste though, it’s a lovely circle and Autumn is only just beginning to touch it. It’s beautiful here just now, but in another few weeks it will just be a different kind of beautiful.
Here are some pics from the walk up and then from the circke. Â my son liked seeing the cows, but insisted on calling them sheep (he does know better) and the path between the fields was a little slippy so take care if you visit, My son was also of the opinion that the stones at sunhoney need hugs. Who was I to argue.
Oh and there was this funky stuff growing on a rock...
and I liked the way the water droplets sat on this feather. I’m strange this I know.
Fettercairn Church
Originally built in 1803, steeple added in 1860. Not much to find about it but it’s still a nice visit.
Fettercairn Arch
Designed by John Milne from St Andrews in 1864, to commemorate Queen Victoria and Alberts visit to the area in 1861.
Auchenblae Church
Ok so I popped along here a few weeks ago. I wanted to see the pictish stone that is here, unfortunately for me it is inside the building and it’s locked so I’d need to turn up for a Sunday service I guess if I want to see it.
I’m glad to have things preserved one way or another, but I kinda think they should generally be more accessible, although I know most of our local pictish stones are.
It’s still a nice building to see and an old graveyard. Also what seems to be a crypt maybe? I’m not sure have a look at my pics. I’m also not at all sure the bit I saw was supposed to be open. I wasn’t brave enough to go down the steps, not because of any spooky fears, just health and safety. I was alone, mobile signals here can’t be relied on and no one knew I was there....

Autumn!!
So I’ve not done so much romping around stone circles etc of late, although I do have some pics to upload from Fettercairn recently. Some of the arch and the graveyard.
Anyhow, sudden realisation that I love Autumn, and seeing the leaves falling…. suddenly, even though I haven’t been everywhere I want to go yet, there are some places I’ve been that I really want to see bathed in that autumnal splendour. It might be too early in autumn to see it at its best but still. It’s time for a fake autumnal friday :) back later with pics from a stone circle I hope!

The childhood home of the Queens mother, Lovely castle with some great exhibits and highland cows :)
Alive
I’m recovering slowly from my operation, and last night went out for a walk with a friend.
I had one of those moments where I felt properly alive, not just breathing and existing and getting by, but alive. Feeling the possibilities,Â
It is difficult to embrace wrongs that have been done and forced changes, and I’m not altogether there yet I must say. However what can be embraced is the realisation of new possibiites that may not have existed before, better ones than you thought you had before. The opportunity for a different future, the possibility of embracing a betterness you didn’t know you could in your relationships, your way of life, in yourself. A betterness available for all concerned in the wrong.
Betterness. I’m not even sure it is a word, but I want it and I’m taking it.
Break
I’ve had a little break from my phenomenal fridays due to holidays and a minor operation.
Normal service will resume in a week or two :)

Lovey place but we came on a windy and rainy day, so wasn’t able to stay for too long. It was still nice though.

Easter Auqohorthies Stone Circle.
Probably the best preserved circle I’ve come across yet.  When you look at the pictures just look how straight the recumbent stone is? I didn’t bring a spirit level but I think it’s pretty close to being perfect.
One of the stones is a red colour, info online suggests it is red jasper, looks beautiful.Â
There is some markings on some of the stones that does not look like weathering so presumably has been intentional.
The info on the display board suggests as in other places that these circles were used for tracking seasons, but I still don’t buy that. In fact the more I see of them the less believable it is.
anyways, Still love them no matter what they were for!
Castle Fraser
Not allowed pictures inside so took a few from outside. There was also an event on here so I took a few pictures of that too.
