ways to portray lucas that are a billion times better than just “crybaby”:
funny - he has a sense of humor. from the time he tried to sneak boney into club titiboo with that outfit to speaking encouraging words to the boulder (on top of being kind), he’s still a kid. take note that he also grew up with claus who is brash and energetic, so they would both have the same style of humor.
determined - lucas is always determined to finish fights and keep the journey going. this is evident whenever a game over occurs or after healing in hot springs (“feeling alive again” and getting ready to fight once more). this can also extend to the actions of the player.
bitter - being forced to mature way too early and look for yourself in a village where you are the town’s “nuisance” gives lucas a 100% valid reason to be resentful towards his situation.
rebellious - although never disrespectful, lucas literally leads a rebellion against the pigmasks.
smart/cunning - lucas is definitely clever and can get out of troublesome situations fast. calling the dragos to attack the pigmasks in chapter 3 or posing as the commander and disguising his friends in chapter 5 shows that he’s ready to help anyone out and cleverly get out of trouble.
stoic - can be interpreted due to the nature of a semi-silent protagonist.
human - having the weight of the world thrown on him, he reacts like any kid his age would in this situation. he’s tired, traumatized, and upset, and his crying shows it. his actions are also very human and shows that you can’t choose his personality and that he isn’t a blank slate like the other protags.
gentle - literally in his character description. makes almost no impulsive or harmful decisions.
heart of gold - lucas’ kindness and generosity is what brings everyone together in mother 3. he has a heart of gold because, while being ignored by some and others bring mean to him, he still found time to see the nice things in people and helping them.
lucas is so much more than just a crybaby, and i wish people could see that. although he was coddled as a child and very sensitive, the events of mother 3 make him grow in even more ways than just “courageous.” play the game, won’t you?
