is it just me or does the verb "to deal with" in system communities piss me off. and to be clear, it's not always the question that's bad. ie, how do you deal with so many alters. genuine question right. but the verb "to deal with" always will piss me off because it makes it sound that your alters are just inconveniences.

theyre not your friends, theyre not the guys you see at your work, theyre not your neighbors, theyre not your enemies, theyre not your family, theyre not anything. theyre something to "deal with". something to deal with against your will. like im a pile of dirt. im not a pile of dirt.

its a really small detail but it really pisses me off. those are my alters. my parts. i love them. they aren't something for me to "deal with". DID is what i have to deal with. i hate having DID. DID is the pile of dirt that i have to deal with, not my alters.

but i get it kind of. its hard to find good synonyms to "deal with". but heres a few i thought of: "to handle", "to see to [sth]",

meanwhile "to deal with" sounds like: "to put up with", "to bear with [sth]". all negative sounding right

just wanted to get this off of me. also wanted to see if any systems had a similar sentiment

Ahem. Ty for this post it describes exactly what we feel when people ask “how do you deal with a system that big?” It always felt SO upsetting to hear that. It’s the wording, it’s exactly the wording that’s the problem.

it upsets me so much. well. most of us. even if we arent typically the ones actively fronting in a lot of situations that doesn't mean we're something to be "dealt with." we exist and have our own needs too. it really hurts especially for our trauma holder, they have enough on their plate without being treated like they're unwelcome or a problem that needs to be addressed before anything else happens. sure we can step on each other's toes but we're really all we have. it upsets me immensely, the idea of other alters being treated with such little care that they're referred to like that. -juno
