Aside from Sonic suffering from Middle Child Syndrome, I've seen a lot of fanon stuff where Knuckles feels like he has to earn his place in the family and atone for his mistakes even though he clearly doesn't have to while Tails is just waiting for them to kick him out due to his trauma-induced low self-esteem despite that obviously never going to be the case. I seriously can't wait to see what kind of personal stuff the third movie is gonna put these three kids into in addition to Shadow.

The whole reason that I am TERRIFIED /pos for 3 is how hard Jeff, pat and josh went for sonic and the emotional part of sonic 2.

Sonic goes into his issues with: Family and accepting that, using his powers for good, the loss of his first mom, his fear of water, his family getting hurt because of him and the idea that he is still just a kid and he can and will loose at times. Knuckles goes into how his whole clan and family were wiped out and how he only sees himself as a warrior, not a kid, and his first 'friend' tricks him, and tails talks about how bullied and alone he was on his home planet.

Sonic 2 went into a very good majority of each of the trios trauma, and what scares (again /pos) me about 3 is that shadow has a bucket load of trauma to go into, and it's already been said that the whole "friendship solves all" thing won't work on shadow because he's emotionally damaged. (They say emotionally damaged, as if the trio aren't.)

Now we can't say anything yet about what aspects of Their issuestm are gonna come up in 3 especially regarding the trio, (we can make assumptions for shadow) but I hope we see more of those issues coming forward, tails being more confident in the family, knuckles not being afraid to be a part of the Family and Sonic being more solid in his new hero identity.

Safe to say though, those kids have issues.
