“july, cleanse my intentions in light. remove anything that blocks me from seeing myself, the layers i’ve outgrown, the noise i’ve mistaken for direction and the versions of me that were only meant to be temporary. make room for the parts of me that don’t need permission to exist.”
— billy chapata
Theodore Roethke, from a poem titled "The Dream," featured in Love Is Like The Lion's Tooth: An Anthology of Love Poems
I met her as a blossom on a stem
Before she ever breathed, and in that dream
The mind remembers from a deeper sleep:
Eye learned from eye, cold lip from sensual lip.
My dream divided on a point of fire;
Light hardened on the water where we were;
A bird sang low; the moonlight sifted in;
The water rippled, and she rippled on.
She came toward me in the flowing air,
A shape of change, encircled by its fire.
I watched her there, between me and the moon;
The bushes and the stones danced on and on;
I touched her shadow when the light delayed;
I turned my face away, and yet she stayed.
A bird sang from the center of a tree;
She loved the wind because the wind loved me.
Love is not love until love’s vulnerable.
She slowed to sigh, in that long interval.
A small bird flew in circles where we stood;
The deer came down, out of the dappled wood.
All who remember, doubt. Who calls that strange?
I tossed a stone, and listened to its plunge.
She knew the grammar of least motion, she
Lent me one virtue, and I live thereby.
She held her body steady in the wind;
Our shadows met, and slowly swung around;
She turned the field into a glittering sea;
I played in flame and water like a boy
And I swayed out beyond the white seafoam;
Like a wet log, I sang within a flame.
In that last while, eternity’s confine

"Here’s something I learned during my years of celibacy as I healed the emotional wounds in my system:
A constricted nervous system cannot hold expectancy for something better. It’s physiologically impossible to expect something better when you haven’t normalized it yet in your body.
An unhealed nervous system cannot imagine more than what it has already survived. Survival becomes the norm as a protective mechanism, so it settles for what feels familiar because familiarity is the closest thing it has to what it really needs: safety.
If struggle happened early and repeatedly, struggle becomes normal.
If love came with pain, drama becomes normal.
If affection required proving, proving yourself becomes normal in search for love.
And what feels normal to you will always find you."
The vulnerably honest moment I discovered that my body didn't know how to receive genuine love without expecting it to also hurt. If you still flinch when good things come your way, I wrote this one for you 🤍
From love,
J
1. Gas is pushing $5.
2. Rent is sitting at $1,800, $2,200, $2,500 like that's normal.
3. Daycare is costing as much as somebody's entire paycheck.
4. Apartment complexes tell people they need to make 3x the rent to qualify for a place... Meanwhile most of the people making the rules don't even make 3x the rent themselves.
5. Everybody that isn't a millionaire or billionaire is struggling
6. Voting rights are being taken away
7. Friendships/families are being ruined over politics and religion.
8. People are dying by the thousands on our money.
9. Churches have pastors being praised instead of JESUS 🥹🤞🏽
10. Men & women are arguing with each other.
11. Parents are exhausted.
12. Groceries are so expensive that you don't even feel like figuring out dinner anymore.
13. Schools don't feel the same.
14. Kids are acting out.
15. Adults are burned out.
16. Mentally, emotionally, financially... people are carrying a lot right now.
So when somebody seems a little quiet, irritated, distant, or not like themselves; Give them some grace. A lot of people aren't being rude. They're exhausted and in fight or flight mode. Life has been applying pressure on all of us.
I’m all for accountability and honest conversations, but when someone comes forward to share something vulnerable, meeting them with shame, labels, or spiritual insults doesn’t create transformation, it creates fear and humiliation. Christ consciousness corrects with compassion, clarity, and truth, not condemnation. Calling someone a “Jezebel spirit” and not offering tools, guidance, or emotional understanding isn’t healing work, it’s performance. People don’t grow from being torn down. They grow when they feel safe enough to be honest, supported enough to self-reflect, and guided enough to change. Anything else is ego-driven than spirit-led, and it concerns me to see people seeking help being mistreated and they stand there and take it. Accountability should never require stripping someone of their dignity. We can call out behavior without attacking the person. That’s what real healing looks like.
Ppl don’t even realize they fighting battles they inherited.
You think that anger yours.
That pride yours.
That silence yours.
Whole time it was modeled to you.
Nobody talked it out.
Everybody yelled.
Nobody healed.
Everybody coped.
And now you grown carrying habits that ain’t even original.
Breaking generational patterns don’t look glamorous.
It look like therapy.
It look like accountability.
It look like apologizing first.
It look like doing the opposite of what you saw growing up.
That’s uncomfortable.
Because now you the first one moving different.
You the first one saying no.
You the first one choosing discipline.
You the first one refusing chaos.
And they might not clap for that.
But somebody gotta be the one that stops it.
If it don’t end with you
it continues through you.
I chose to end it.

The intimacy of feeling safe enough to be vulnerable. And knowing it won’t be weaponized later.
