stasia realised her mistake in asking about five seconds too late and for that, her heart decided to relocate to her throat. she was quiet- for once in her life- looking back at honey lemon with… god, regret? she tried to snap out of it but it wasn’t as easy as it used to be. “i— that’s not true. you do. i-… really?”

it was a conversation that she didn’t exactly want to have but it was probably more overdue than anything else. the two had skirted around the elephant in the room long enough “it’s very much true. why are you surprised? i lost all my friends back in high school, stas.”

“Be honest,” Stasia said with deadly seriousness, eyes narrowed before pausing to take a painfully slow sip of a strawberry milkshake. “Are you into your bestie?”

honey felt like a deer caught in headlights. in hindsight, she would’ve once called anastasia her best friend, now she was best-friendless. she would’ve said lucius but he had mr parr as his best friend. “i don’t really have a bestie...anymore”

Deziree was fighting tooth and nail to keep herself from completely crumbling. But you wouldn’t know it. She was more standoffish than ever, with her wall so high you would need a fireman’s ladder to even crest the top. It had been some time now since Anastasia had been well enough to leave the hospital, but the weeks had been harrowing, and her sister still didn’t seem right all these weeks later. Deziree switched off, avoiding anything that might make her blink, and had since thrown herself into her school work and trying to find another damn job because her last employer thought she was being too haughty to work the phones.

She clicked her way toward Deville Design Haus, CV in (homemade) manicured hand. It wasn’t the first time she had tried to get a job there, but a year’s worth of experience elsewhere would surely help get her foot in the door this time. Deziree rounded the corner, and swiftly stopped when she spotted Honey looking like she was evading security. “You running from someone?” she asked, with no intentions of being polite about it.

Of all the people Honey wasn’t keen on bumping into, Deziree had got to be top of the list. She was stand-off-ish, mean and clearly had a distain for her after she had removed herself from the popular crowd and drifted from Anastasia. At best Deziree had tolerated Honey because of Anastasia and with that connection broken, it was open season if Deziree had chosen it to be. 

She knew from the moment Deziree spoke that this wouldn’t be a pleasant conversation to be a part of “No, I was out shopping and the sales people were just being overwhelming so I had to get out of there for a breather” 

Now she found herself in a sea of red, black and white in Deville Design Haus and nothing was calling to her. She’d been shopping for a while and it was beginning to get overwhelming with all the sales assistants flocking to her and trying to make a sale. Honey hightailed it out of the place as soon as she could and stopped to take a breather when she was far enough away from the store. 

lottie la bouff was dubbing twenty twenty-three the year of reinvention and focusing on happiness. it was a nice idea, to focus on happiness, but in a town that thrived on drama, it may not be the easiest new year resolution to put in motion. 

new year. new party. new charlotte - well at least a new dress for charlotte. 

standing at the top of one set of grand marble stairs, charlotte watched on at the partygoers dancing and enjoying themselves, the music blaring, drinks flowing, confetti flying, charlotte had singlehandedly brought back the roaring twenties in remarkable fashion. and yet, for the first time in her life, a party was the last place she wanted to be. charlotte took a long swig of her drink, the party was in full swing and she knew all too well that there was no party like a la bouff party and a la bouff party didn’t stop.

This place was insane, and that was just the party. If Honey gave a thought about the actual wealth the La Bouff family had, her head might have exploded. She could only imagine what the cost of the party was. 

While trying to locate a bathroom in the ridiculously huge home, Honey found the very woman who had thrown the festivities for the whole town. 

“Charlotte, are you okay?” she asked, wondering why she would be standing herself in a party she was literally hosting. 

she wasn’t sure if she wanted to attend the new years party, but wendy darling was a woman with manners and when someone invites you to a party they’re throwing, you have to attend, at least to show face a little. 

there were very few times in wendy’s life where the was rendered speechless but today was one of those very days. witnessing the extravagant decorations, the effort charlotte had clearly gone to, even just the size of the la bouff estate in general - and the fact that wendy had to call it an estate, all were good enough reasons to her to be unable to find words. 

after handing her invitation over and weaving her way through partygoers who were indeed going all out, wendy found the giant bar that was just casually another room in the never-ending estate and ordered a drink.

Honey was excitable at the best of times, and given free run at a whole New Year party that was spectacular in every definition of the word had her over the moon excited. 

She had bounced her way to the bar throughout the music booming through the place and it was there that she met Wendy. 

“Hi Wendy, how are you? Are you enjoying the party? Charlotte really went all out with this.”

"we were friends back in school years ago and i felt like i was hiding who i felt i really was. it wasn't the image associated with the popular crowd of people in school and we drifted apart or had a falling out. i'm not really sure how things has ended as badly as they did. as for now, we've run into one another a few times recently and we've been civil but it feels like a lot remains unsaid between us both"
