Some of you might remember her but for those who donāt this is Yume when she was in high school. This is the first thing I ever drew when I first downloaded Procreate on my iPad āØ
I got an iPad in 2018 and have made all of my art on it since. This I was the first drawing I ever made in it. Itās an early concept for one of my characters in my comic. Working on it as we speak. Hoping to release it later this year.
Just something iāve started to do regularly since i realized how helpful it is, so thought iād share!
This is also a useful technique for making sense of complicated poses, for example when drawing 2 or more people snuggling or otherwise being in close contact with each other uwu

Holy shit I havenāt posted on her since the porn-pocalypse. Not that I ever did NSFW on here but I moved to Instagram and it went well for me there. I saw an artist I really like and follow on all her socials is still active on here and I figured I lose nothing with posting my recent stuff on this blog.
I think I want to take a more casual / authentic approach and actually lean in to the nature of what blogging is. I think having a safe space to be creative in different ways will do me good. I already have an ArtStation so I donāt really need to make this blog a portfolio site.
Expect a combination of written posts, art and maybe even videos. I want to start exploring other creative outlets besides drawing.

How I draw kisses!
A quick tutorial/cheat sheet on how I draw kisses!! Iām going to assume you already know how to draw a head and how to angle it, because thatās an entire procedure in itself. Iām going to focus on mainly the lips and also try and tackle some common mistakes when youāre first starting out.Ā
Pursing the lips
So this is boring but crucial. If you donāt purse, their is no real kiss (take notes) bc placing your lips on top of someone elseās is not how you kiss⦠The most important part are the corners of the mouth, especially from the side view, because thatās what changes the most.Ā
The actual kissing yeee
Letās start do a basic side view kiss on the lips. And believe it or not, I think this one is the hardest! Ā
Think about which parts of the face are going to be in front of the other! This can take some time to get the hang of, but once you get that down itās easy. Also, focus on getting the heads at the right distance and angle. A common mistake is drawing them too close.Ā
The Lightning Shape:Ā
Still keeping in mind which part of the line is āRedāsā upper lip and which part isĀ āBlueāsā lower lip, play around with the shape of the lightning. Very subtle changes can have a very strong impact! I usually go by feel, so take your time, but here are some things to look out for:Ā
Details squishing etc.
So yeah once the lightning shape looks good, I usually add details and squish parts of the face that will touch. Which usually includes the noses, but from this angle they wonāt squish unless you intend on making nice big noses <3. By now it should look something like this:Ā
You donāt have to add the corners of the mouth! I usually do when I want to show that the character is smiling.Ā
One technique used a lot in anime/manga + other cartoony art styles, is fading lines where two soft-ish objects press hard against each other. The picture above explains it.Ā
Common mistakes
Getting down the crucial kissing part of fanart is hard and you will mess upp SO MANY TIIIIIIMES, but you learn from your mistakes, so donāt be discouraged. There are some things though that I frequently see when people draw kisses that makes it look awkward and stale, many of which I used to do myself. Here are some examples:
Try your best to avoid these. Most of the mistakes have little to do with the lips and more to do with the angle of the head. So getting that down before you move on to the lips is important.Ā
¾ view Kissing
There are not a lot of angles where you actually see the lips meet (or at least not that I can drawā¦). Depending on how the heads are placed in relation to each other, you may or may not see the lips in a ¾ view. The way I have demonstrated is done in a way that the nose will bump into the otherās upper cheek.Ā
Aaand thatās about it! These things will make more and more sense the more you draw them. At first it can seem very hard with so many things to keep track of, and it is, but practice makes perfect!Ā
Rule of thumb: does the angle and position of the heads make sense? How are the lips going to align? What parts of the face are going to be in front of the other? How much will the lips purse? And finally, what is going to squish?Ā

Liking something a creator made, isnāt the same as reblogging it. Reblogging assures that the content gets wider exposure and reach.
And notes might seem arbitrary numbers (weāve all seen shitposts that reach millions of notes by the virtue of their shitposting nature), but for a creator a certain number of notes and reblogs is an indicator that their work is appreciated and is resonating with people. That alone can surve as a motivator to continue.
Itās really not that hard to hit reblog.

Steve WolfhardĀ is a cartoonĀ writer andĀ storyboard artist who'sĀ been nominated for an Emmy awardĀ for his work on Adventure Time. SinceĀ joining AT in season 3, Steve has contributed his zany humor and style to several more great shows, including Over the Garden Wall and our own latest season of Bravest Warriors. Steve lends great insight here into his path through animation and sources of inspiration. ToĀ hear that heĀ often pulls ideas from dreams gives helpful context to the nightmarish āLemongrab eats LemongrabāĀ scene that he wrote, below. Going on the record as saying that this is and has been one of myĀ very favorite minutes in animation. Enjoy!
When did you know you wanted to work in animation?
I always wanted to be a cartoonist as long as I can remember. I went to animation school because I just wanted to get better at cartoons. Once I got in there, I started to really enjoy animation.
When you were in the Classical Animation program at Sheridan, did you already know you wanted to be a writer/storyboard artist?
No. Until I learned about how Adventure Time did their work, as a board-driven show, I didnāt even know that writing was an option that might be available for me, or that storyboarding could be something that I could love.
Whatās a general outline of your path through animation, from first job on? How did opportunities come about?
When I graduated from animation school, there werenāt many jobs available, so I started on a public access animation show with some friends of mine in a small town in Ontario. After that I started working at Studio B in Vancouver doing character design and flash animation. Then I planned on quitting animation for good. I did illustration and comics for a couple of years. I met Pen Ward at a comic convention, and he was collecting comics people to work on Adventure Time. That was my first job writing and storyboarding.
What have you written that youāre most proud of?
Iām really proud of a scene from an Adventure Time episode called āAnother Five More Short Grayblesā. The outline just said something like āthe Lemongrabs get angry.ā I made that into a scene where one of the Lemongrabs ate the other one. It still makes me laugh.
What is your writing routine like? Any must-haves for writing?
I get ideas in dreams a lot. The idea for the Bravest Warriors episode āI.O.U. for Your Loveā came from a dream. I like coming up with a setpiece or a fun ending and working around that. I also like to come up with fun jokes and get a lot of those in there. If Iām in a block, I think about what Iām trying to say with this story. In general, though, I donāt trust anything that I come up with. I always talk with my wife Leslie about it and trust her to know if somethingās good or bad or how something can be fixed.
