thinking about fragile and ds2 again....
she truly is the heart and core of the narrative, isn't she
like none of this would have happened without her. and I'm not necessarily talking about lou.
the crew of the dhv magellan wouldn't exist as they do without her. she found these people who are suffering from so much grief and guilt, in the hardest moments of their lives, and offers them her hand.
like, you've been dealt an unfortunate hand, but that doesn't have to be the end. there is more to your life beyond this.
which imo parallels her growth in ds1, starting off as a woman who isolated herself because of the immense guilt and trauma from higgs and the stranding. she places all this blame on herself for what happened at middle knot city, even though she did everything she could to cause as little loss of life as possible.
but throughout the story she starts opening up to sam, sharing her life story with him, and making a genuine connection. he helps her through that trauma and self-blame to the point where she now has this new community of people who care about and support her (same can be said of sam, but this post isn't about him)
and now in ds2 we see her reaching out to people who are at absolute rock bottom and offering them hope. because the most important thing a person needs in times of hardship is community. she's not going to let anyone wallow in guilt the way she did.
and here she is! captain of a crew of such kindhearted people, doing what they can to reconnect and provide aid to others. she knows there's a better future out there, but that can't happen if we remain stagnant. ugh idk i just love her and her character arcs so much.
