Inspired by a painting that I saw at my proprietor’s house

This isn’t saying you shouldn’t write bad or sad stories or anything, but from Gaster’s perspective as a character in those stories of course he’d want “happy” endings, haha.

But anyway, I kept telling you guys that when Handplates was over I would tell you. Well… here we are. After seven long years, here we are.

When I started I never thought I’d make it. To be honest, it doesn’t feel real to me at all. My brain still expects to do another page in about two weeks as it always does. I assume it’ll take a while to sink in. There’s a lot to say but this post is already incredibly long (sorry), so it’s probably suited to its own post.

But for all of you out there who read this story, whether you were there from the beginning or just came in now, thank you so much. And for all of you that were inspired by this comic, who created things for it, who blessed me with so many amazing gifts of art and fic and music and dubs and videos and so much more… I don’t know how to thank you enough. I never dreamed that an idle idea could have come this far or had such an impact on my life and so many people, but it did.

I kind of feel at a loss for words… again it’s very surreal. But I will say that Gaster wondering whether the kid is an actual human or not has an unintended level to it since my avatar is a fox but it’s TOO LATE NOW I GUESS lol.

Gaster did say he was going to make a tracking device! sans requests a shock option It looks like Papyrus’s hopes for the future weren’t too far off after all~

Hearing Gaster say “hold still” brings back VERY bad memories. Papyrus determined to force his way through this though! Gaster rather concerned that Papyrus is trying to put a positive spin on the plates…

I remember a fic where Gaster took Papyrus’s plate off and he lost one of his fingers, we were on the same wave length about removing them all this time! haha

Settling in! I was faced with an interesting problem here: how did monsters integrate themselves into human society? Dealing with that would have taken a lot of time and would’ve gone off on a huge tangent, practically its own story, so instead I dealt with it the same way the game did: montage-ing over it, haha.

This transition leads us into a sort of “free” period where there’ll be some one/two-shots while I wrap up some loose ends before we hit the final scene in the story. How many one-shots there’ll be will depend on how many ideas come to me before we all finally say goodbye…

Figured Gaster would have no familiarity with cars since there weren’t any in the underground, so riding in one would be rather nervewracking, haha.

Off to adventure! No Handplates still isn’t over, haha. There’s still some more to go!

Papyrus disappointed that Gaster isn’t staying with them, he wants everything to be fixed and happy now! Even though he himself is still struggling to deal with what happened. But he told Sans he wasn’t going to hurt him or push him so he lets it go. The Great Papyrus keeps his promises!

Ugh all these backgrounds are really slowing these down… that’s probably going to be the case for a while…

The happiest Gaster’s ever been in the entire comic, haha. Papyrus is talking about the smoke smell that was in the house when they first moved in. Flying of course refers to Papyrus walking on air.

It was fun to have the three of them talk relatively normally to each other again, it’s been such a long time since they’ve done that. It’s nostalgic in a way.

Finally a chance to sit down and feel things instead of shoving it all down to face crisis after crisis, haha. Able now to look back at what happened to them with full understanding! Poor Sans in particular needed this - he’s never really owned or acknowledged any of the suffering he personally went through. He’s always put Papyrus first and he still does to this day, even when it hurts him. He blames himself for when Papyrus got hurt back in the lab, even though the only one responsible for that pain was Gaster, and as a result he never focuses on anything that happened to him, only to Papyrus. On some level he feels like he deserved it while Papyrus didn’t, or at least he deserved it more. So hearing someone acknowledge that HE also suffered and his pain is legitimate and deserving of sadness is a bit overwhelming for him. Although they’re both kind of overwhelmed right now, haha.

This kind of thing can be so complicated! Thus Sans’s conflicted feelings and confusion about how to deal with them. There isn’t really any way to prepare for dealing with something like this… much less any kind of guide.

Oh Alphys, so dependably awkward. Gaster knocked the coffee over on purpose to have an excuse to apologize to her. She doesn’t know what you’re apologizing for, Gaster! And now her shirt is all stained! Although I guess considering he’s been erased from history, does he have something to apologize to her for…? Alphys got spooked by his ghost hands back when she was alone in the lab once, haha. Still remembers how odd they looked! Ugh, this one wasn’t long vertically but the backgrounds really slowed it down, it took a while.

Finally getting out of the void! It feels like it’s been forever, haha. Sans going out on a high note, of course. He had to grab Gaster’s fingers since he doesn’t have palms lol

Papyrus has been waiting for this his whole life, haha. Sans is not telling the whole truth as you can probably guess, but it’ll come up more later.

Gaster noticed that Sans always prioritizes Papyrus over himself since the beginning as well. He’s not surprised that he’s still doing it, but…
