You met Baran at a bar, one of those places with live music performed by a group of older guys who'd once dreamed of making it big as a garage band. You remember it clearly or at least most of it. You were there celebrating your twenty-first birthday with your friends, finally retiring your fake ID and, for the first time, legally ordering drinks without having to lie about your age.

Then the first drink from your secret admirer arrived at your table, delivered with a knowing smile from the waitress. Beneath the glass sat a cocktail napkin with a handwritten note, sealed by the imprint of a lipstick kiss in the corner.

"The waitress told me it's your birthday today. Consider this drink my way of saying happy birthday, darling. Apparently, twenty-one looks very good on you."

After reading the note and asking who it was from, the waitress pointed toward a woman standing near the stage. She lifted her own glass in a silent toast and smiled the moment she realized you were looking at her.

God, she was breathtaking.

Loose dark waves framed her face, tailored trousers hung effortlessly from her hips, the low neckline of her blouse was impossible not to notice, and her smile... her smile looked downright dangerous.

The rest of the night unfolded in a steady exchange of flirtatious glances, drinks sent back and forth, and lingering eye contact heavy with desire.

That was, until the band's lead singer paused between songs to announce that the next one had been requested and dedicated to the birthday girl: you.

Be My Druidess by Type O Negative began to play, and when you looked over at Baran, you caught her smiling before silently mouthing the lyrics to one very specific verse.

After that, it didn't take long before you found yourself in Al-Hashimi's hands. Then in her lap. Then in her car. Then in her house. Then in her bed... and, finally, on the receiving end of her mouth.

From the moment you met him, you could tell something wasn't quite right. Jack had this strange way about him. Certain habits, certain instincts. Even before he started having feelings for you, he acted like some overprotective animal, always hovering nearby, always watching. But once he fell for you, it became something else entirely. He was like a territorial dog, unwilling to let anyone get too familiar, too comfortable, too close to someone he'd already decided belonged to him.

At first, it was subtle. His arm would slip around your waist whenever someone tried to hold a conversation, pulling you against his side, and the polite smile he'd been wearing would slowly tighten into something harder, colder, until whoever was talking to you inevitably took the hint and walked away.

A few months in, it wasn't subtle anymore. You'd catch him letting out quiet, almost involuntary growls whenever someone looked at you a little too long. He'd step in front of you without thinking, like a well-trained guard dog eager for an excuse to lunge, always poised to bare his teeth.
