The Art of Phillip K. Smith III 

Phillip K. Smith III received his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design.  From his Palm Desert, CA-based studio, he continues to push the boundaries and confront the ideas of modernist design.  Drawing inspiration from the cold rigidity of the Bauhaus movement, the reductive geometries of minimalism, and the optic sensation of California’s Light and Space movement, Smith III attempts to resolve the complex challenge of finding a natural state of life and spirit within these ideological aesthetic constrictions.  The results are deceptively simple and compelling objects that seem to breathe and move as you observe and interact with them.

‘The Ghetto Tarot’ - Haitian artist group, Atis Rezistans, re-creates the classic tarot deck into scenes, people and locations from their native Haiti. 

الفنان الجميل “علاء ولي الدين” كان بيحكي مع “محمود سعد” فـ برنامج “على ورق” إنه جت عليه فترة بعد نجاح فيلم “عبود عَ الحدود” ولمّا إتشهر كان عايز يخس.. إتفق مع مركز طبى للتخسيس عشان يمشى على نظام غذائى معاهم، من ضمن المميزات اللى المركز ده بيوفرها للعملاء، إنه بيبعت لهم الـ 3 وجبات كل يوم لحد باب البيت، وجبات صحية بكميات قليلة قوامها الأساسي الخضار السوتيه اللى مطبوخ بالبخار والسلطة وثمرة فاكهة واحدة “علاء” بيقول إنه مشي عَ النظام كويس جداً بس ماكنش حاسس بأى تغيير!! كان منتظر النتيجة بسرعة بس ماحصلش وبدأ يخُش فـ دور إكتئاب؛ بيقول إن والدته عملت فيه حتة مقلب إكتشفه متأخر بعدها.. حبت تخفف عنه وتهون عليه فـ كانت تيجى ومن وراه بدون ما يعرف وتستلم الوجبات كل يوم وقبل ما تديهاله كانت تفتح العلبة من دول وتحط فـ وسط الأكل حتة لحمة كبيرة، صُباعين كُفتة، نصف فرخة، كام حتة ممبار…. ألخ ولمّا “علاء” يفتح العلبة ويلاقى الكلام ده يستغرب ويسألها: إيه اللى هما باعتينه ده؟ بالذمة ده أكل ريجيم؟! تقول له: وانا إيش عرفني هي جاية كده. فينبسط “علاء” وينشكح وياكل بشهية، وطبعاً مايخسش، بعدها بفترة بقت تقول له: إيه ده الله أنت خسيت.. بيقول: بقت النتيجة إنى بسبب كلامها بقيت بفرح أكتر فباكل أكتر فبتخن أكتر وأكتر. بعد ما “علاء” خلص حكاية الموقف وهو ومحمود سعد ووقعوا من كتر الضحك، “محمود سعد” بيسأله: بس هى عملت كده ليه؟ علاء إبتسم ورد: “يا عم كانت بتجبر بخاطرى يا عم”
