As an autistic person, let me say that it’s kinda weird being in the pjo fandom cause like I can relate to a lot of things the characters did with their ADHD, but not fully. Cause like if turn to these characters for validation and while they’re similar, they’re not like like me. And yeah, while uncle ricks representation has never been perfect, it’s always been a step ahead for it’s times, so I’m waiting.

I just really want an autistic character (preferably genderqueer or queer in general as I’ve found a lot of other people from the autistic community are genderqueer??? Like it’s not just me???) who doesn’t have their whole character focused on that, but like it could be mentioned.

Perhaps after battles, they’ll go to a safe, dark, quiet, space and stim to avoid a meltdown due to overstimulation from the battle and someone’ll be like “what are they doing” “oh yk their thing”

And I get that demigods are meant to be ‘wired for battle’ and stuff and that lots of the things to do with overstimulation that generally come with autism would prolly “get in the way” and it could be kinda contradictory but i really think we need that type of representation in these books cause I know if I had seen an autistic character as a kid who wasn’t treated as a “retard” who’s stimming and behaviours were normalized that wasn’t made out to be a burden of incapable of functioning properly, it would have really helped me to not have so much internalized hate towards my own autism.

I do think that it’s really nice that these series do the normalizing thing for dyslexic and adhd kids already but I would just really like to see someone like me yk?

Anyway I hope that makes sense.
