Chapter 45: A Curious Book

As Belle and Rumplestiltskin entered their cabin again, Rumplestiltskin immediately took off his leather jacket, hanging it away in his dresser while Belle sat down on their bed, gazing out in front of her. “I really hope Jasmine will get me that book soon… It is one of the most fascinating books I’ve ever heard of.” Rumplestiltskin chuckled. It was hardly a surprise that Belle would be so fascinated by such a book. “Why is the Enchanted Forest not as liberated?” Belle wondered out loud. “We seem like awful prudes now, never talking of sexuality or pleasure. It’s all up to ourselves to discover how these things work – and what if you end up with a partner that isn’t inquisitive at all and never really learns how your body works? How dreadful is that?” Rumplestiltskin shrugged as he sat down beside her. “I fear there are far worse scenarios,” he said darkly. “There are plenty of relationships in which love, consent and respect are lacking. But just because this world has such a book, does not mean everyone is happy.”

Emilie might not be going to a lot of cons in the US the upcoming time… but she’ll be heading to Ghent in Belgium next month! (7 + 8 of April)

The FACTS Convention is one of the oldest comic cons in the world. I’m very proud to say that I’ve been volunteering for 10 years at that convention, but it’s been around a lot longer! (Since I was 10 - 1993!). The way that it has grown is incredible. The first edition there were about 40 people present, last year about 45 000.  It’s the biggest con in Belgium - possibly the Benelux - and there’s something for everyone there. In general, it’s a well-run show with a lot of activities and a lot of merchandise. 

So yeah, as a volunteer I can give you a lot of info about going there - unfortunately I can’t give you much time at the con itself cause I got the photo-booth crew to manage. (Which is amazing cause I get to see all the actors up close as well and it’s the most grateful job in the world seeing happy fans walk away with their beautiful pictures.) 

What makes it even more awesome to me is cause I’m a huge fan of Emilie (hence my icon which I’ve had for 5 years or so) and the moment she and Rebecca got sacked from the show, I immediately started dropping hints among the organization like: “HEY GUESS WHO WILL BE AVAILABLE NEXT FACTS EDITIONS NOW?!” - I didn’t realize they were actually listening!

Last edition they got Jared Gilmore - and I thought “Darnit, they haven’t interpreted my question correctly, I meant for them to get Bex or Emilie” - but I didn’t realize immediately that this was also them testing the waters a bit. They didn’t have an idea of the size of the OUAT fandom in Belgium, and honestly, neither did I! Jared is, let’s be honest, not as expensive as his co-stars that have 20 years on him. Personally, I was (irrationally) scared that Jared wouldn’t do well and would ruin the chances of them ever inviting other OUAT actors - luckily for us Oncers, I didn’t realize there were many more Oncers in Belgium besides me. 

The organization didn’t know either if he would sell anything or not, but the fandom in Belgium popped up out of nowhere and they were grateful and well-behaved, and Jared had a wonderful time and so did the fans! It’s thanks to them that the organisation has seen that OUAT actors are a great addition to the show and are beloved by many. So thank you, Jared!! <3 All kudos go to you. 

And Oncers, unite again, come to FACTS - even if you’re from abroad - you really have to at some point in your life anyway (even if you don’t know it yet) and you can combine your visit to the con with a day in Bruges, Antwerp or Brussels. Those places are really worth a visit too. Get some good Belgian chocolate, drink some beer (though best not to do this on the days of the con, you don’t wanna walk around with your first Belgian beer hangover) and have some great food. (Or just go to the IKEA opposite the convention if you need to eat on a budget). 

Also, if you support Emilie, then actors like Bex, Sean, and maybe even Lana might be the next ones invited! Always support the actors of your favorite shows, if you don’t, they won’t invite the bigger fish. (That’s convention-logic that fans often forget.)

If you’re in doubt whether to go to Dutch Comic Con in the Netherlands for Emilie (a week earlier I believe) or go to FACTS, go to FACTS. Why? FACTS has more experience with running a con, a little bit more room, and the photo-booth experience is better in Ghent, though I might be totally biased cause I’m partly in charge of making sure everyone has a good time. ;-) 

[Dutch Comic Con is also great though - but personally I’m not a fan of the way they set up the activities around the actors. It’s not bad per se, but I like the dedicated room for the Q&A at FACTS (more seats too), as well as the fact that you get pictures that are twice as big printed out straight after you take them, and it’s slightly quieter than DCC. (Dare I say that Dutch people are loud? I do. They know this of themselves too. :-P I love them - but they’re loud lol. <3)]

Also, Emilie’s in good company so far, and there are probably a few more guests going to be announced. Unfortunately, Holland Roden and David Wenham had to cancel, but they might be back one of the next editions.

Also, if you’re a Gillian Anderson fan - she has announced it will be her final year of conventions. Don’t think “I’ll get her at another con” - it’s unlikely you’ll see her at any again in the future. So keep that in mind if you want to go for more pics but need to prioritize who you spend money on. The others might be at many more cons, Gillian probably won’t be. 

Also, a Brazilian fan of Gillian Anderson announced she’d be coming to FACTS. Are you coming from far away for Emilie? Let me know. I’ll rub it in the organization’s face how far the fans of OUAT are willing to travel. ;-) Cause man, am I going to be hyper about this guest for a while! :-D They’ll be sick of me by the time the con arrives.

Chapter 39: A Robber’s Den

“But how can she feel this way about him?!” Rumplestiltskin did not understand at all, pacing in front of their bed back aboard their ship, not looking at Belle as she braided her hair while she looked at him from underneath the sheets. “She really does trust him,” Belle said once more, slowly, but objectively. “She said crime rates are lower than ever and that Jafar has made sure there aren’t any death sentences anymore.” Frowning, the dark imp sat down besides Belle, sulking about this news. “Doesn’t make sense. He’s a dark wizard.” “So you’re in favor of death penalties then?” Belle asked, strictly raising one eyebrow as she looked at him. Rumplestiltskin sighed and shook his head, not replying to her question as he lay down in bed, gazing up at the wood above him.

Well - we met Jafar last chapter, and now it’s time to meet Jasmine! :-) Something I should probably clarify is that this was written after I watched the OUAT in Wonderland spin-off, and way before season 5, so the Jafar in my head is - until this day - Naveen Andrews. The Jasmine/Aladdin thing didn’t happen as it did in canon either, so prepare for a lot of AU in that regard. I think Karen David was a perfect Jasmine though and I regret she won’t be going to the Happy Endings con next week. I’m sad not to meet her, but glad to finally get a chance to meet Bobby! :-) (Let’s just not bring up fanfics, lol. Chapter 38: Jasmine

As Belle woke later that afternoon, she immediately remembered Rumplestiltskin’s earlier warning. While they were here, there was the possibility that Jafar would be watching them, and she hoped that Jafar wouldn’t come to any conclusions if he saw how they slept together – each of them embracing the other so tightly that it had to be a loving scene to witness. As she focused on his steady breathing, she realized that he was still sleeping, and so she kept her eyes closed for now, waiting for him to wake. When he did, she felt him pull himself away from her. “Wake up,” he said in his high-pitched, impish voice, not in the softer, huskier voice he usually woke her with in the mornings. “We have a banquet to prepare for.” Belle opened her eyes and sat up straight, following him out of the bed. “What shall I wear?” she asked in a timid voice. She figured that it would not be dangerous to have Jafar hear that. “You shall dress as the princess you are,” Rumplestiltskin said as he whisked himself in an outfit Belle had not seen before. She thought it was rather hideous, but she did not remark on it. After all, she knew that it was only part of his mask. He would try and appear as the Dark One people thought he was – not as the good man she had come to know.

The end of an era tonight - with perhaps our last ever OUAT ep that features Rumbelle… Could not let it go by without saying that Rumbelle will always live on in fandom - and I hope this story does the love between this couple more justice than the show ever has done. Chapter 37: The Royal Vizier

As they landed on deck, Rumplestiltskin roughly put her down, and Belle averted her eyes, staring at the floor as she heard the two men converse, her own shoulders tense as she realized that if her lover was warning her, then there was a genuine reason to worry. “Rumplestiltskin,” the man spoke in a dangerous tone, though it was a bit nasal as well and not as threatening at Belle had expected. “I was not aware you already had a visitor.” “Jafar!” The imp greeted him with a harsh giggle. “Visitor is not the correct phrase, dearie. She’s rather my…” He pressed his lips together as he thought, and clapped his hands together when he found the right description. “My prisoner!”

On the 5th day before Christmas, @panda-capuccino drew for me… a scene from the Rumbelle cowboy AU A Splendid Bargain. Who doesn’t love a story about a marriage of convenience set in the wild west? :-D (I absolutely adore how Rumple has this little pony tail in the drawing. <3 That is just so cute!) I really like this story. I wrote it for @dreatine, for the Rumbelle Christmas in July in 2015. It starts off rather sadly, with Rumplestiltskin attending the funeral of Moe French, and seeing Moe’s daughter, who has lived a life of isolation. He finds her quite beautiful, but thoughts of marriage don’t pop up until a bit later, when he realizes she has nowhere (but the local brothel) to go now that her father has died… Marrying her will help him conquer some of his own demons as well. 

An early Christmas present? A new chapter of HotS! It’s been nearly a year… Whoops. Time flies when the year sucks like 2016 did? Is that a saying? It is now.

Chapter 36: Crossing Stars

Belle and Rumplestiltskin felt a sense of relief as they watched the northern lights above them, glad they wouldn’t make it back to this world anytime soon, and they kept their eyes peeled on the waters around them while the Black Bones prepared the ship for the chase. “So…” Belle said quietly, gazing out over the deck as she sat on the large chest that stood by the wheel. “Another month over.” As Rumplestiltskin looked at her from his place by the railing, she smiled warmly. She had never felt this way for anyone and hoped that soon enough, they would find his son. She knew that once he was reunited, he would be truly happy. He’d have everything he wanted – everything he needed – and they would be a proper family.

On the 8th day before Christmas, @panda-capuccino drew for me… a sweet scene from my most recent fix-it fic - The Fairy’s Son, about Belle going to the Great Hall to talk to Rumplestiltskin the night after she learned the truth about his mother. Though she finds stealing a baby was a bad idea, she still feels sorry for him and offers him her friendship - and perhaps even her love. 

On the 9th day before Christmas, @panda-capuccino drew for me… a fluffy scene from possibly my most popular Rumbelle fic - Bedmates. Advertised as “Rumbelle Hospital Fuckbuddies Fic”, this story got more comments/hits than any of my other Rumbelle stories. (Proving that the promise of sex sells, I guess?)  In this Storybrooke AU, Belle and Rumford end up sharing a room in hospital. What ensues, is perhaps a bit of ‘sexual healing’? (Can’t believe I just referred to that song cause the melody truly annoys me to no end…) At almost 22K words and 16 chapters, it’s not that long a read (despite the large amount of chapters), and combines sexy times with fluff, angst and comedy. 

On the 10th day before Christmas, @panda-capuccino drew for me… a hot Rumbelle fanart based on the last fic I finished, The Princess and the Knight. One of the most beloved chapters is the one “they spend in the caves”, with readers of the story exclaiming during later, angstier chapters “they should return to the caves!” - which is now a euphemism for doing-the-diddly-do, which is already a euphemism I guess.  The story is about knight Rumplestitlskin who wants to win princess Belle’s hand in marriage more than anything. To do that, he has to defeat more ogres than any other knight in the kingdom. When princess Belle goes missing, he has to make a difficult choice: stay at the front to fight the ogres, or leave the front to save her from the predicament she’s found herself in…  The story has plenty of adventure, angst and romance to offer and is 11 chapters and 37K words long. (and finished!)
