“Define loneliness? Yes. It’s what we can’t do for each other.”
— Claudia Rankine, from Don’t Let Me Be Lonely: An American Lyric (Graywolf Press, 2004)
“I get really angry at people who are mean to other people. Isn’t life hard enough without people making it worse for each other? I think the people who do, who set out to make others feel bad, feel bad and alone themselves and they don’t want to feel alone, so they make other people feel bad. So they’ll just feel bad but also maybe, not so alone.”
— Iain Thomas, How To Be Happy
"God", I screamed to myself in frustration, "just start somewhere for fuck's sake".

Not to generalize but the people most vocal about mental health in workplace are the ones who need to practice what they preach. Because it's harmful for people with mental health issues who actually trust you to be understanding. I don't even want to explain further your 'wokeness' sucks.
Letting go is the most difficult shit ever. And it's something you can not force yourself to do. It happens when you are tired, tired of fixing broken promises, tired of thinking for two people because the other person doesn't want to communicate. The hurt overshadows all the good memories and you are left with nothing but pain. Some of us find it hard to choose ourselves over others because we have never done that before. For some of us, it's our first lesson.
I only wish for peace of mind and heart. That's it. The heaviness is a burden that I am tired of writing about.
“I am going // to leave the country, and become / an impressive nightmare, just watch me.”

“You win a while and then it’s done / Your little winning streak”
— Leonard Cohen, A Thousand Kisses Deep (via jacobwren)
Let the terrible politicians practice / their terrible politics. At my kitchen table, all will be fed.
— Barbara Crooker, from “Poem with an Embedded Line by Susan Cohen”
“I believe people are reading more poetry because we distrust the diatribe, the easy answer, the argument that holds only one note. Poetry makes its music from specificity and empathy. It speaks to the whole complex notion of what it means to be human.”
— Ada Limón, for PBS NewsHour

“You come home, make some tea, sit down in your armchair and all around there’s silence. Everyone decides for themselves whether that’s loneliness or freedom.”
— Unknown
Dear God,
I am grateful, I'll always be. Sometimes, it does get hard to believe that there's someone looking out for us in a world like ours — we are unkind to each other, most of the time, and unfortunately, it is as simple and cruel as that. So, it does get hard to believe, you know? But another little stubborn thing about us is we do not know how to not hope. We are always the vulnerable kids who need their mothers to tell them everything would be all right. I so desperately want my mother to say that to me. But life is life, and mothers are humans, and I am a pretty flawed human. Dear God, on days I believe in myself is also the day I believe in you. I think that's what faith is, isn't it?
