âYou arenât as alone as you think you are. I never thought Iâd say that, butâŚÂ Iâm here. There, I said it. Iâm here. Youâre not alone.â

âSomething that certainly developed more [in season 2] is Phoebe, my niece [played by Elodie Blomfield]. She was so great. Day one of working with her it was so clear that she was brilliant. You know child actors, theyâre either amazing or theyâre awful, thereâs no in between. You donât know what youâre gonna get and [Elodie] was so amazing and we had a good thing together. [The Roy/Phoebe dynamic] was always there but I think thereâs probably more of it now because of how good [Elodie] was.â - Brett GoldsteinÂ

It would be a lie if Jenny said she hadnât spent the afternoon casting sidelong glances at the young man when he wasnât looking. However, it would also be a lie if she said it was only because of his looks. She also liked watching him interact with Matilda. Each little encouragement he offered her was pitch perfect; often enough to promote confidence but not so often that it felt condescending or disingenuous. Even when Matilda made mistakes, he wasnât overly critical, making sure that he showed her an alternative way of doing things. Not to mention the fact that he didnât talk down to her like most adults were prone to do, even as her intellect became apparent.Â
âŚOr maybe thatâs just how she rationalized the staring.
Matilda surveyed the small tray with was laden with examples of their handiwork, her head cocked to the side as she considered her options. Their outsides all shined invitingly, a clear sign that their careful babysitting of the tempered chocolate had been worthwhile. Still, Sarp was right. It didnât matter how pretty they looked, if they didnât taste good, what was the point?
âHow about the sea salt ones?â Jenny suggested as her daughterâs silent contemplation approached the one minute mark. Of course, sheâd never want to step on her daughterâs toes, but it didnât really matter which one they tried first, did it?Â
The little girl assessed her motherâs suggestion before nodding up at Sarp, seconding the suggestion.
Sarp hadnât been oblivious to Jennyâs gaze--honestly, he was used to being noticed, and the couple of times heâd turned just as she looked away proved that she had at least some interest in him. And if theyâd been alone, he would have made his interest in her more clear--but to his credit, aside from an occasional glance at her as Matilda focused on a task, he kept his attention on his student. Heâd missed working with kids since leaving Istanbul, and even though Matildaâs intellect seemed more like an adultâs (her vocabulary was better than Sarpâs, that was for sure), she still had the youthful energy and fresh perspective that made routine tasks seem more fun.
Watching her as she studied the finished chocolates for so long, he wondered what she was thinking--he hoped this had been worth it to her; that heâd helped to answer at least some of her questions. It seemed like an awfully long consideration if everything was fine. But when Jenny broke in, and Matilda agreed without protest, he guessed maybe things were okay after all.
âPerfect choice,â he agreed--not unaware that the decision had been Jennyâs, and so the compliment would go to her as well. Setting the sea salt bar on the cutting board, he stepped away to heat a knife with a kitchen torch (âYou can run it under hot water at home, just dry it on a towel,â he said, not wanting Matilda to start experimenting with fire) before using it to cut three bite-sized pieces from the chocolate. Picking up one of them, he popped it into his mouth, considering the immediate taste a casual consumer would notice as well as the more subtle elements. âWell,â he said, withholding his comments until Matilda could give hers, âwhat do you think?â

Another kiss is pressed just a little lower, creeping down onto his neck before Jenny simply buries her face in Sarpâs neck, deciding she had contented herself for the time being. âPancakes would be lovely, actually. Iâm sure Matilda would appreciate it as well.â
Thereâs a pause as Jenny lets out a soft sigh, the breath warming his skin, seeming to sense Sarpâs thoughts. Or perhaps the feeling was just in the air tonight. âDo you know how nice it would be to stay like this? Just pretend like we donât have things to do and just spend the day tomorrow doing absolutely nothing.â Jenny wasnât one to indulge in such fantasies very often, but right now, with Sarpâs arms wrapped around her and the intense sense of security that came with them, she wished she could freeze this moment in time and stay here.Â
Sarp wouldnât have minded if sheâd kept kissing him forever, but this was good too, feeling her soft skin against his, every word murmured against his pulse. âOkay,â he agreed just as softly. âWhat kind? Strawberry? Raspberry? Chocolate?â
For a moment, his mind drifted to their kitchen, to what potential ingredients they had and what recipes would work best with them--but Jennyâs words brought his attention back to her again, and he smiled against her hair. âWe could,â he said, knowing it was easier said than done, but stubbornly hoping anyway. âYou havenât taken a day off in a long time.â And him? Work could survive without him, probably. Heâd take a scolding if it meant getting to stay like this.
