Alright I'm gonna have to dnf this book because I went against my usual instinct and looked up spoilers/ synopsis for it and it's basically what I expected. How did this become a cult classic when it's so freaking boring and cringe? 19 yr old girl who doesn't know she's gay, married older woman she's obsessed with and yet it's so fucking boring. I know it was written in the 50s, I've read older books that weren't this fucking boring. And the characters that just suck. One is immature to the point I don't understand how this older adult woman could be interested but then that older woman is also mean, condescending, manipulative and in general has zero appeal even though you're learning about her through the words of the girl that's "obsessed" with her. It's screamingly obvious the younger has serious mommy issues and the mommy in this case has an actual child thats kind just referred to occasionally. Idk, maybe if I had read this when I was younger I would see why it's so beloved but I just can't understand the hype. There's also a movie with Cate Blanchett which would be the only reason I might try to find it. Oh and let me add, mommy milf also had a gay affair with her bff at one point when her marriage was still good and that woman is still around, being weirdly possessive. All in all I just do not get the appeal and the rave reviews for this book maybe I've just read too much smut and it's ruined my brain. (I was not wanting or expecting smut from this there's like no sexual content at all which is fine but this went past tame to lame) I don't think the book ever clarified the age of the older woman but to me they are so far apart it's absolutely absurd.

Think I found my first disappointing queer novel and it sucks because it's touted as being this classic tale that lesbians love that was the most irritating book I've read in a long time and both characters pissed me off and disappointed me in turn. There's a movie and supposedly it's good but people said that about the book too and I don't trust them right now. Just a freaking girl with mommy issues being obsessed with an older lady and yeah it was written in the 50s and you can freaking tell

Very not fun thing yesterday, had to deal with sheriff deputies at my job bc someone reported child abuse happening. Watched cameras back and yep, would absolutely agree. Woman hits this kid, maybe 5 or 6 at least 10 times. Open hand slaps wherever she could reach, because he was excited. That's literally all it was, he was excited and waved his toy around and she got angry. She's in jail, I checked this morning but just watching the footage back was upsetting that poor child. I hope he's somewhere safe and that she gets serious help.

My greybie fella is going to start thyroid medication and hopefully he will gain a lil weight back and get his happy tude back🤞🏻 I feel bad for not realizing sooner he was losing weight but they said his blood work isn't terrible but definitely edging into concern territory so we're going to start treatment and hopefully get my guy back to feeling himself
