Isla Lucas has felt like an outsider looking in ever since the day she was born. Though born in Puddlemere, she never felt entirely British herself, as the child of an immigrant Venezuelan-Argentinian family who wasn't always seen as an equal by her fellow countryman. On the other hand, as her only contact with either of her family's cultures was limited to them and a very small community far away from what they once called home, Isla didn't feel entirely Argentinian or Venezuelan either. What is she, then? That's what she's been struggling to figure out her whole life.
Isla is a firecracker, energic and loud, which can be a less than ideal personality to have in a family who ran away from home out of fear of a military takeover, and who now intends to lay low. Isla's parents were very opposite in that sense, however; while her mother Paloma wanted to stay connected to her roots and community, her father Ignacio wanted to blend in as much as possible. The bitter irony was, even with completely opposite views, neither of them could ever truly understand Isla's need for finding who she is.
She did always find comfort in her older brother, though he doesn't fully comprehend her feelings either. Being eight years older than her, he was born in Argentina and remembered his home country quite well, as opposed to Isla, who was still in her mother's belly when the family left to start a new life across the sea. Still he was always there, trying to understand and comfort his little sister; which made it quite hard on Isla when, following their parents divorce when she was 12, she got separated from both her brother and father, and wouldn't see them again until she was an adult herself.
Half a witch and half a human, half of two countries tha sbe doesn't know as she was born on a third one. Isla's parent's divorce trusted her way from the magical world she had always known, and life as a muggle made her feel like even more of an outsider. Isla's quest for finding meaning on herself has taken her to peculiar places and peculiar people. It took a few years of engaging in some rash and self destructive behavior until Isla had it in her to take a step back and realize that the only way for her to feel whole again was to reconnect with the lost half of her family. It wasn't always easy, it still isn't, but she's trying. They all are.
Now back at Puddlemere, she's trying to find her own way forward while attempting to not entirely leave the past behind, as she can now understand that it's part of who she is too. Isla still goes to parties and indulges in some drinking and smoking, but now that she's got her own job and place, she at least feels a little less adrift.
SOME EXTRA FACTS:
Isla’s name is pronounce ees-la, not eye-la, as it’s of hispanic origin and not scottish. She will correct you without hesitation if you say it wrong.
Until she moved to London with her mom, Isla played for the junior team of Puddlemere United. She never seeked a career in the field, however, but she’s still a major fan of the sport.
Despite all of the struggles inside of her family, Isla is very family oriented. The time when she ran off on her own was the messiest of her life and she’s aware of that; thus she’s trying her hardest to mend every relationship and trust people more, especially her parents and brother.
She went to Cornwall County School for Girls until mid-1970, at which point her parents divorced and she went to live with her muggle mother, away from mostly everything magic-related. She finished her studies at Central London High, a muggle school.
Since the statute fall, Isla has felt a fire ignite in her. The rising tensions have made her find a justice seeking side in her that she hadn’t yet realized was there.
