Isla and Rab || Baby Thangs
Inspecting the Welcome Witch out of the corner of his eye, he nodded his head in acknowledgement to Isla. “Right.” He stuck his hands into his pockets still unbelieving that he had agreed to this. Yet he also disliked the idea of Isla doing this alone. There was only so much that he could write down as wanting to know the facts from the source. If anyone questioned him on it he could easily defend his decision with the answer that she was his wife. Even to him that meant something.Â
Having called for the lift, he looked once more towards Isla and found himself saying, “I’m sure that everything will be fine.” With confidence. When they had finally discovered that Isla was with child, he was undeniably ecstatic. Perhaps not for the best reasons, but he was excited all the same. They had made it this far and he refused to harbour any thoughts that would deny his, or rather their, success. Everything was going to be fine.
The two walked in silence to the lift, waiting till it opened at their level, Isla stepping in after Rab. Glancing at him out of the corner of her eye, Isla spoke, “Are you excited?” She asked, voice quiet -- hesitantly questioning. “To find out everything?” Isla was nervous to hear his answer. She knew that he needed a child -- a son, in particular -- but whether he actually wanted a child, especially as much as she did, was still unsure to her.
As the lift opened on level five, Isla stepped out, stopping for a moment to locate Healer Strout’s office. “It’s just down the end,” she told Rab, waiting for his acknowledgement before they made their way to the office, knocking lightly on the door.
The healer who opened the door was a middle-aged Witch, a mop of brown curly hair tucked under her healers hat. “Mr and Mrs Lestrange, please come in,” she chirped, ushering the couple in, “I hope you’re well.”
Isla and Rab || Baby Thangs
Rab’s long strides left him walking ahead of Isla in the spacious hallway. His thoughts still congested with the work that he had left behind. Thoughts that were rather macabre considering the “joyous” event that was ahead of them. Somehow even in his thoughts there was a tone of melancholy to the word.Â
He had tried to ignore such feelings in the past, but they only seemed to keep growing. He was trying to ensure that his way of life would not disappear before his eyes. While he was not sentimental, he was still loyal to his family, Isla, and a few select others to varying degrees. He rolled his shoulders in an attempt to loosen them and where that particular train of thought led. Now was not the time to think of such things. Much easier to just focus on the long term, and not the short. There would be time to figure out his more personal loyalties once the Cause had succeeded.Â
Having arrived in the dining room, he stuck his hands in his pockets and nodded at his wife’s parting phrase. Waiting a moment to ensure the path was clear he weighed the Floo Powder in his hands. The hairs on the back of his neck rose when he realized that he would be entering a situation that he knew nothing about. A situation that was just so domestic. He could not believe that he was doing this. Should have just let Isla go by herself.
With an air of one preparing to head into battle, he stepped into the clean fireplace. “St. Mungo’s.” He demanded in a voice that did not reveal any of his unease. Everything would be fine. He had larger concerns to plague his mind.Â
Stepping out of the mantel at Mungo’s he checked his watch before scanning the hallway and catching a glimpse of Isla. He was about to usher her onwards, before coming to the realization that he did not, in fact, know where to go. He begrudgingly had to admit his lack of knowledge, grinding out the question: “Where are we going?
Stepping out of the fireplace into the welcoming hall of St Mungo’s, Isla ran her hand down the front of her dress, dusting off any soot that still clung to the fabric. She hated using the floo network, but now she was pregnant, it was her only choice — apparating was too dangerous and Isla never felt comfortable on a broom.
Within moments of arriving, a bubbly blonde Welcome Witch bounded over to Isla. “Welcome to St Mungo’s! Can I help you find something today?” Blinking at the enthusiasm of the young girl, Isla nodded. “Yes — yes, I have an appointment with Healer Strout,” she answered, looking behind her to see if Rab had arrived yet. After a few more moments of small chatter, Isla heard the fire behind her rile open, Rab stepping out soon after.
Isla found herself calming as soon as she set eyes on him. With how much they had tried and failed to fall pregnant, coming to this hospital — to these appointments — always made her feel nervous. With Rab by her side, it helped her remember she wasn’t alone in this. Thanking the welcome witch, she turned to him, “We’re on level five.”
Isla and Rab || Baby Thangs
Rab was taken aback by just how quickly she had become comfortable in his space. It wasn’t that he wished for her to be uncomfortable in her own home, but there was something about the space behind his desk that was distinctly his. No one was allowed behind his desk. So when she came closer still to brush a piece of lint he had missed, he was nothing short of shocked. Not that any of what he was thinking reached his face. Hopefully all that was visible was his calm face as he nodded in thanks.Â
Turning to look at the fireplace in question he couldn’t help but to raise his eyebrows loftily. “My office fireplace is not connected to the Floo Network.” Paranoid he may be, but he preferred misplaced caution over another exit into his home. “Perhaps the fireplace in the dining room.” He suggested instead, opening his arms to direct her away.
Rabastan had been trying to be more understanding of late. Considering that he no longer lived alone. It took some effort, but he was able to pull a solemn apology from who knows where. “Sorry for not telling you sooner. It just didn’t make any sense to have this fireplace connected to the Network.”
Isla looked over at Rab from the fireplace, her smile fading slightly. “Oh -- it’s fine,” she shrugged, albeit rather confused. She had the fireplace in her entertaining room linked to the network, for the convenience of her guests, and she thought Rab would have done the same.Â
Walking with him to the dining room, Isla walked up to the fireplace, taking a small handful of powder out of the ceramic pot that sat on the mantlepiece. “I’ll see you there,” she said with a smile over her shoulder before stepping into the fireplace. “St Mungo’s.”
Isla and Rab || Baby Thangs
Rab was in his office by the time the sun shone through his office window. Or rather was still in his office, with a pile of papers on his left, and an even larger and uncompleted pile on his right. Some idiot down the ranks had let information slip and now it was his job to clean it up. Not in the violent and mindless way of some of his relatives, but like the dark creeping of the tide. In a way that no one would realize that there was a problem until it was swept away, and never to be seen again.Â
Sighing, he ran his hands through his hair.  Had anyone walked in at that moment they surely would have seen his hair going off in many different directions. Definitely not the collected appearance that he usually aimed for. There was so much to do and so little time. Time.
Pausing with his pen mid stroke he stared into nothing. Time. There was something important that he was supposed to remember, but what? Sticking the pen between his teeth, he flipped through the papers on his left, looking for something that he had forgotten. He shifted his jaw ignoring the pen moving from side to side in his frustration. He did not forget things. What was so cursed important about this day? Just as he was aligning the papers onto his desk he caught the glimpse of cursive on a bright piece of paper. “Mungo’s” it read in his own hand.
“Shit.” The appointment. Throwing the papers into his drawers and locking them with a spell, he hastened towards the door. Walking down the hallway he took a moment to re orient himself with his situation. Isla was finally pregnant and they were to see the doctor today. The back of his mind whispered the question of how good of an idea it was for him to be present. While he was not active in the field, that did not mean that he was not important to the Cause. A place like St. Mungo’s was sure to have at least a few unfriendly eyes. Rab knew that because he had placed some of his own operatives in Mungo’s. That thought itself relaxed that tiny part of himself. He had done his research on this doctor that they were seeing. They had no obvious ties to either side, and if that changed, well. Rab would fix it.
Rab reached for the door of their bedroom. He was about to turn the handle when he decided against it. There was no point in bothering her when he had a spare set of clothes in his office. He would see his wife soon enough, and deciding such he turned back to his office.
Rab was just settling his jacket on his shoulders when he called Isla in. “Yes, almost ready.”He replied, catching a glimpse of his reflection and was pleased to see that every hair was once again in position.Â
Rab froze at his wife’s second question. Not because it was obscene, but because he had never thought about it. He had just assumed that someone else would deal with it. He didn’t treasure the idea of shopping for clothes for his son, but he also didn’t treasure the thought of the criticisms that he would get from his mother if something went wrong.Â
So he was somewhat surprised to hear himself say, “I still have a fair bit of work to do, but we’ll see how long this appointment takes. I may be able to squeeze some time in for,” He felt the twitch of a smile “shopping.” Glancing around the room to make sure that everything was secure once more, he turned to his wife. “Shall we get going?”Â
Smiling at him as she entered his study, Isla was careful not to cast her eyes to his desk. She knew that her husband worked on sensitive information for the cause, and that he was equally as sensitive about the work that crossed his desk. Instead, she focused all of her attention on Rabastan.
“I was thinking we could use your fireplace to floo into Mungo’s,” she offered with a small smile. She’d often found herself unable to stop smiling lately, no matter who she was talking to. Even around Gregor, she found herself getting less irritated with his antics than she normally did, an attribute she was just relating to her joy of finally being pregnant.
Closing the gap between them, Isla went up on her heels, brushing a small piece of lint off of his jacket. She knew that he, like her, wanted to appear completely put together — not a hair out of place.
“Alright, well — we’ll see, hm?” She responded, knowing that the likelihood of him actually accompanying her was slim. “Get the appointment done, make sure everything’s alright and then —,” Isla just smiled, giving her a small shrug as she made her way over to the fireplace. “I’ll go first?”

Isla and Rab || Baby Thangs
It had been two months since Isla had received, what she would call, the best news of her life -- that she was pregnant. Before, with all her friends already parents to toddlers, Isla couldn’t help but feel like she was falling behind, like she was failing. In one ear she had Rab’s mother, constantly nagging. In the other, the gossip and constant questioning of the others in her social circle. Accompanied by thoughts of her own mother, and how much she wanted Isla to raise a child of her own was enough to make Isla start to think that maybe, just maybe, motherhood wouldn’t come to her no matter how hard she tried.
That’s why, when she looked into the full length mirror of her walk-in robe that morning, and saw the small distinct bump forming on her stomach, Isla was happier than she had been in a long time. Sure, when she had pictured this moment growing up it was with a loving husband who cared for her as much as she cared for him, but Rab wasn’t awful. She could’ve ended up with someone like Jugson, or Travers or worst, and for that she was grateful.
That day marked her three week check up and much to her relief, Rab had agreed to accompany her. Days like these were bitter sweet for Isla, who had always imagined getting ready to welcome her child with the help of her mother. With a final twist of her hair, Isla pinned it into place, grabbing her purse and wand and making her way to Rab’s office so they could Floo into St Mungo’s together, a bundle of nerves and excitement radiating through her.Â
Knocking lightly against the door, Isla pushed it open, resting against the door frame. “Are you almost ready?”
“I was thinking of going shopping after the appointment. I thought it might be good to start buying some clothes. For the baby,” Isla added on, a very small smile playing its way across her face. “You’re welcome to come if you like.”
@rabblestrange
Ah. Right. Being the constant pain in my ass and wandering aaaall alone because dear ol’ Lestrange doesn’t want you around.
-rolls her eyes- No. I’m meeting him here for lunch. Are you meeting anyone, or are you just having fun day drinking by yourself?
Looks like someone’s a long way from home, eh?
I’m exactly where I’m meant to be, actually.
If anything is boring, dear sister, it’s your unimaginative response.
Or -- is it the fact that your only friend is someone you shared a womb with, hm?
AU
Here’s the group of people that are interesting enough to be friends with, *raises his hand in a ball*

Your company may be helpful, yes. You could distract her while I have a very brief discussion with my father. It’s better to separate my parents, they are surprisingly cunning when put in the same room with each other. *nods his head* Yes, I suppose that Mungo’s does make sense.
That I can do. Did you want to tell her, or should I whilst your telling your father?
If you want.
Oh! You don’t have to – I mean, it would be nice if you were there, but I can always ask Cissa to come with me instead.
If I don’t tell them soon I won’t hear the end of it. *his expression looks like he would rather be tickled to death than the prospect of having his parents holding something over him* Malfoy’s wife? Nonsense. I’ll be there. *takes a sip of water and then looks around the room* Where is your appointment again?
That's true. I know your mother keeps asking /when/ we're having a baby. Did you want me to come with you? Just at Mungos - in their paternity ward.
*nods his head* That’s good then. *sighs* I suppose it’s about time I should tell mine then. *pretends to think about it* It might be tight, but I can move things around to be there.
If you want.
Oh! You don’t have to -- I mean, it would be nice if you were there, but I can always ask Cissa to come with me instead.
*doesn’t really have anything NEGATIVE to say about that so just leaves it* Yes, I suppose you’re right. *turns to look at the girl and just nods at her* The talk with your father went well? *surprised but tries not to let it show* Oh yes, I think I have the time tomorrow. *glances at his watch* What time is the appointment?
Mm. -thanks the girl, taking a sip of her tea- Yes, it did. He’s -- happy for us. Not that he’d show it, but -- -gives him a wider smile before nodding- It’s at 3:30.
*looks sceptical* I highly doubt that’s true. I have yet to have a chicken salad that is beyond mediocre. *takes a sip of water and re-settles into his chair* Busy or not, they should have the common courtesy to keep their guests happy. *fiddles with the cutlery/napkin roll and looks a little uncomfortable* So how are, things?
-rolls her eyes very slightly- Then you can get something else. And I’m sure it’ll taste good, despite the wait. Look -- that girls bringing our drinks now. -looks at him with a small look of surprise and then gives a small smile- They’re -- well. I had breakfast with Father this morning, and -- I’ve got a healers appointment tomorrow, if you’d like to come.

*watches as the person walks away* Better or not, it’s true. We have been here longer than most. *looks around at all the other people* Maybe we should find somewhere else. I’m sure they would have much better service.
We’re here, we might as well wait. Besides, their chicken salad is to die for. They’re just -- busy.
*glances at her and then whoever he’s yelling at, tapping his fingers on whatever is in front of him* We’ve been waiting far longer than anyone else, *bristling as he says it but manipulation 101 is to be nice to people* and would appreciate your attention whenever it’s available. *looks back at Isla and his voice is sort of clipped* Better?
But -- at least you tried.
