I’ve recently re-watched xxxHolic Rou Adayume (literally translated as xxxHolic Cage: Selfish Dream) and noticed how I felt more disturbed during Doumeki’s nightmare scene than the first time I watched it. At first, I thought it had been Watanuki trying to run from danger but that didn’t fit why he looked quite disturbed when talking to Haruka afterwards. Also, why was the OAD titled ‘Selfish Dream’? That could only mean Doumeki’s dream was selfish. But Doumeki and selfishness don’t go together, right? 

For me, the initial talk Haruka gave about selfish human hearts and the nightmare scene revealed the whole picture: Doumeki lusted after Watanuki but he knew his desires were selfish since acting upon them would be detrimental to Watanuki’s future. So, the later had to enter his nightmare and free himself from Doumeki’s selfish desires.

Allow me to explain why I believe it was ‘lust’.

Anyone who thinks Daria is a bad friend is completely overlooking the fact that she was most likely neurodivergent—and a teenage girl trying to navigate the complexities that come with a first real friendship. Daria and Jane’s relationship was rare and layered, built on sarcasm and cynicism but grounded in a deep, mutual understanding that was both precious and unique.

That’s not to say their friendship was perfect. Take the episode See Jane Run, for example—Daria was kind of an ass about Jane exploring her own interests. But in the end, they worked through it while staying true to their individual morals and values. Daria is someone who refuses to comply with the standards others try to push on her. She’s stubborn and unwavering in her beliefs. In See Jane Run, she was sticking to those values while testing boundaries, and when she crossed a line, Jane called her out on her bs. Jane has her own strong values, too.

RUNNING

This is the way Vi deals with her trauma of losing everyone close to her not once but twice and it makes sense. After all why get close if it will all end in the only thing she has ever known...tradgedy. She also has problems taking responsibility avoiding the subject and running from the things she's done.

ANGER

Jinx has constant reminders of the things she's done in the form of paranoia and mental breakdowns. She often lashes out at anyone and anything else when she doesnt know who to blame. She blames herself deep down and takes it out on everyone else.

EMBRACING

Surrounding yourself with your trauma in attempt to 'overcome' it. Silco thinks the best way to deal with what's happened to him is to stop the fear. If you own your fear then nothing can stand in your way.

CHANNELING

Mel channels her anxieties and experiences through her art. Calmly detailing the images of what she experienced through her art is healing to be sure but it also keeps her grounded in reality. It's also a physical reminder of things that have been so they will never happen again.

being aspec, whether you are arospec, acespec, or both, is NOT A BAD THING. being aspec is NOT A BAD ORIENTATION. you are a whole person who is FULLY capable of living a fulfilling life HOWEVER YOU WANT and if anyone says anything that tries to negate that then theyre not worth your fucking time

your headcanons “dont make sense”? ANYONE can be aspec. anyone can be ANY orientation fictional or real and whoever says otherwise can take it and stick it. we deserve diverse rep, and we deserve rep PERIOD.
