The prolonged eye contact she held with Isaiah from time to time made her want to rip all of his clothes off. This was a feeling she was quite unfamiliar with, so as soon as the urge arose, she pushed it down, pretending it didn’t exist. If she pretended long enough, it wouldn’t be an issue any more. She’d just go numb to the feeling. That’s how she felt as Isaiah’s eyes went from hers to wandering her body, and she wondered what he thought of her. However, this time, she didn’t have to shut down the feeling. It dissipated as soon as he asked for a clean pee sample. “Ugh,” she scoffed. Her mother was a drug addict, and she had no idea where she was or if she was even still alive. “I’m not dealing with this, and you know i don’t like it when you’re using.” He had no reason to stay clean for her. They weren’t even a couple, but she did care about him. And a little piece of her thought he cared about her too. She wanted to run back up the stairs and finish setting up dinner, but before she could, she got angry. She snapped at him, “It’s easier being sober than it is using, and you know it. You’re just not man enough to try it.”

We really wanted to be there. There’s just so many of us, there was no way we’d be able to keep our normal schedule in a different state, a complete ocean away. Jade and Jojo were so pissed when they found out where everyone was. I got the, “Daddy, I cannot believe you did this,” every day y’all were gone.

It was a once in a lifetime trip, that’s for sure. Ya’ll probably would’ve somehow came home with three new kids just because. 

It’s only for a little while. Like three months! Six months max if it’s a slow subdivision.

“Okay,” Maya nodded, biting her lip to hold back a grin. She didn’t move from her spot in the garage-gym though her help was probably needed back in the kitchen. “I’m sorry you’re having a shit day,” she said, trying to find any reason to stay where she was. “Can I make it any better?”

Isaiah’s mouth twitched as he hid a smirk. While he and Maya hadn’t made anything official yet, they’d been spending a ton of time together and flirting nearly nonstop. Still, he hadn’t received the best news this morning and to say Isaiah was feeling crappy and angry was an understatement. He wasn’t quite in the mood to deal with anyone, though he’d make an exception for her. “Ah, no, I don’t think so,” Isaiah sighed, his eyes lingering a little too obviously on Maya’s body, “Unless you can get me a clean urine sample so I can pass my drug test tonight.” 

Uh, yeah. Actually. He’s seen the babies since they were born, so I don’t know what to tell you besides that he just cares about them. But, yeah, no. I don’t care. As long as you’re not puking on me too. 

Thanks for that mother’s day text, though. And the flowers. I wasn’t expecting anything from you.
