Are you not a dreamer
Isabelle Falconer, 2019
Oil Painting on raw linen canvas
Are you not a dreamer has proved that I am able to create a painting with a naturalness, non manufactured image that is inspired by nature. I have been motivated by a number of contemporary artists, both locally and abroad, which has given me direction in colour, pattern, detail, texture and placement of shapes. The layering process of responding to the idea of landscape and its beautiful detail has become a means of letting go of the conformed image. The painting exists in my relationship to the subject and the painting in that moment. Painting, by its nature is made up of layering and of being re-made in the layer, at each moment, at each point and site of observation.
The viewer can get lost in this piece, there is no beginning, no end, a perspective that leads the viewer off the painting into a realm unknown. I wish for the portrayal of this fictive landscape to be ethereal and mesmerising. I have chosen to feature strong natural colours and lines to bewilder the senses, however create feelings of calmness. There is a full sense of movement. Each soft line and delicate tone should entice ones imagination.
I wish for the viewer’s eyes to be led again and again over the landscape scene - delving into otherworldly escapes.
