Irregular Developments

Month end! Not letting the space languish, but haven't found it necessary to update for a bit. Work on the SCOREM project was put on hold for the past few weeks as work and other priorities surfaced. However, planning to knock out a few small things this week. Pushed out the other planned stories in Rally.

Comes to mind that upcoming work support for Playwright will need some planning and shepherding. Adding stories to ramp that up, and starting them today, including migrating some of the existing Postman test logic into a new framework as a POC.

New alpha version 0.0.9 of scoremipsum now out on pypi. This has a couple of bug fixes, cleans up some code around the ops module, starts work on abstracting the help content, and puts in a placeholder for config command. Also removes a duplicate set of unit tests, though I still have much work to do there to add more / better tests...

Nothing screamingly urgent or exciting, but as it's the end of the iteration, wanted to close out the Rally stories and defects as "Delivered", so here we are.

Not planning too much more for this week as other projects need some time before sprint end.

Did something unwise last weekend. Had a couple of small changes that were supposed to go in scoremipsum 0.0.6, but I forgot to build the artifact prior to the sprint end. Normally that wouldn't be too bad, but then I started working on refactoring the module names in an effort to simplify the namespace (for one of the packaging stories). And of course, working by myself, there aren't any feature branches... just master.

Well, I broke things. Lots of things. Thank goodness I had a few relatively decent test suites... enough to be able to recheck lots fairly quickly. Once I got over the amount of failures, the fixes went rather quickly. Right now all is back to working and clean, but not sure how much improvement has been made for the story. Just glad to be back to functional.

This sprint (ending Friday) included a quick look at the "rally_workshop" project (pyral based) which I haven't touched in... a very long time. If you'd asked me about this three weeks ago, I'd not have remembered it. However, at least one of the prospective job opportunities listed "pyral" among the nice-to-haves. Initially, I didn't recall but after looking it up, the light bulb went on... and I still have the repo!

Short version: It DOES still work, and CAN get to the Rally sandbox instance, at least thru UI credentials (api access didn't work initially on a quick and dirty try). The prototype workshop app was able to identify the two projects and various new user stories related to the Scorem project, so that's a success. Quickly noted, pyral package for python was last updated on pypi fairly recently (2024), another good sign.

Bunch of good feedback came in from Joe B today. Much of it is already in the backlog (markdown, sanity test, init, pytest) but definitely some items I hadn't yet considered (tox, black, isort, move to python v3.10). Everything's in the backlog (30 items for SCOREM now, after this week). Still at v0.0.5 in both test and prod pypi.

Reddit user @Phillyclause89 has really stepped up and provided lots of helpful feedback and tips. First instance, he suggested getting GitHub workflows functional and opening repo to public (so reviewers would have more trust in loading package). I’d planned on doing both eventually but it made sense to just do it.

Python package “scoremipsum” is now live in production Pypi. Still in a prerelease form - version 0.0.4 currently - but wanted to get the name secured.

Tried contacting the fellow who published the original name "scorem" three years back. It appears to be abandoned, not updated since then. Will give him a chance to update but I’d certainly like that name, as I have it on TestPypi already.

So... basically, the name appealed. For a brief time, I figured that reusing the older "cjstaples" blog ("IQI") would be useful. Upon reconsideration, going with a whole new blog in order to get the better URL. https://www.tumblr.com/blog/irregular-developments
