I’ve made a post about this before but. as cool as percy’s poseidon water powers are. I would like to see less discussion about that and more discussion on his uncanny, frankly terrifying ability to see the past and future in his dreams

I may be wrong but don't most demi-gods have this power when they're on a quest? Cus I distinctly remember Annabeth also having dreams bout the future

you’re not wrong! all the demigods got dreams when they were on quests. my question is why Percy’s are so vivid. everyone else got like. nightmares. a vague idea of what might happen in the future. it was unreliable sometimes; sometimes it was genuinely just a nightmare. Percy’s were accurate. he had dreams of people he’d never met before, in vivid detail, seeing an important event in their life or even their death. he saw things that happened literal decades before he was born. he was able to spy!! on the titan lord!! through dreams! and he was corporeal when doing it. Kelly saw him when he was spying on Luke and slashed at him and he woke up!!! and this was like an every night occurrence!

no bc this is the reason botl makes me go 🥺🥺 most out of all the books. like, again, where is the line between friendship and romance aside from sexual attraction (and even this is a distinction rigidly approached mostly by cishet people)? it’s not a clean cut thing whereby you can categorically say this is platonic and that is romantic. there is no point at which you go “*gasp* they’ve moved into romantic territory now” as a reader bc the divide doesn’t exist! and what does it matter? romantic attraction does not exist separately or independently from the dynamic of friendship. they overlap, intermingle, interact. and botl is the book when these two states begin to really mix for percy and annabeth. and we love to see it

like in any other series thalia, luke, and annabeth would have been the main characters but it’s literally because pjo is all about subverting that dynamic of heroism like these are such obvious protagonists with the hubris and the backstory but unlike a lot of other tween fantasy books percy is actually an underdog he actually is the guy you wouldn’t expect not only bc like poseidon is secondary to zeus but also bc of his disconnection from mythology through to the end  and his entire attitude towards heroism bc that’s the whole fucking point- 

i just think it’s hilarious how when percy disappears and jason shows up to chb, everyone is like “sorry don’t have time looking for our favourite person in the world bye” but when jason disappears and percy shows up at cj....... they’re like oh. wait can we keep him?

the utter romantic symbolism of the first words annabeth says about percy being “he’s the one. he must be.” like..... yeah. he is.
