I wish the idea of this came up more often, I love all the young heroes being in contact with each other. But also there's no way in hell Nico is actually on there, she dont gaf about any of them
sooo i was browsing through the Marvel Wiki for intel (AKA fanfic details) and remembered my favorite mcu theory as a marvel tv fanatic: everyone in the television side of the universe survived the snap.
because. we already got the Elite Trio of Daredevil (Matt, Foggy, and Karen) confirmed to be Snap survivors, plus these footnotes from Daisy Johnson/Quake's (Agents of SHIELD) and Dinah Madani's (The Punisher) Wiki pages respectively forcing the characters into Snap survivors:
not to mention the contentious placing timeline-wise (particularly for The Punisher season 2 and Jessica Jones season 3) because -TV and -Studios were two different production entities at the time, and despite Jeph Loeb saying in 2018 that every show (as of 2018) happened pre-Snap, it still leaves a few outliers.
but also wouldn't it be funny as hell if the Avengers were out moping their loss from a giant purple alien (and made it everyone's business) while everyone from SHIELD to the Defenders to the Runaways and Cloak and Dagger went on with their lives as usual after fighting aliens and demons and resurrected entities for an average run time of 40 minutes per 10, 13, or 22 episodes (you pick) for a minimum of two years each (and kept the fire inside the house)

AoS Season 4 is one of the best seasons of Marvel TV period and Ming Na Wen has an award worthy performance throughout the season, but i do hate how there’s a certain point where they start writing Daisy to constantly glaze FS’ relationship and base her own self worth on them that makes me very frustrated
my problem with that is i don’t believe that’s actually what we see happen
she doesn’t say “my friends need me”
she says, verbatim, “The only thing i know for certain is that you and Fitz belong together” which makes zero sense for her to say, especially if it’s supposed to be in the context of saving her friends (which include more than just those two)
for me to have taken your meaning from the show, she would’ve had to have either 1) mentioned someone other than Fitzsimmons or 2) “i know my friends need me alive right now”
and as for her still being suicidal, that’s actually a big part of my problem with it
Somewhere out there is a fic concept where Daisy meets her friends going to every fucking support group in the MCU cause she needs them all, and each friend is in a different one.
(Sunday, she's at the Battle of New York Survivors one, Monday it's Grief, Tuesday it's Evil Lab Experimentation, Wednesday it's Addiction, Thursday it's Gaining Superpowers Against Your Will, Friday its SA, etc.)
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Relationships: Skye | Daisy Johnson/Daniel Sousa
Additional Tags: Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Angst and Hurt/Comfort, Skye | Daisy Johnson Needs a Hug, Whump, this is just Daisy and Daniel everyone else is mentioned, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Nightmares, Hurt Skye | Daisy Johnson, Daisy is a (recovering) Winter Soldier
Summary:
Daniel wondered what she'd dream about this time. It was a good sign, Andrew promised, that her brain was healing from the torture it endured, plus the decades she spent in cryofreeze. But more often than not, Daisy woke up haphazardly, in ragged, uneven breaths, reliving the missions she pursued under Hydra and the false pretenses they maintained to control her.
another moment of appreciation for the inter-continuity of the Marvel Television shows c. 2013-2020, because Senator Ellen Nadeer in Agents of SHIELD, who campaigned the 'Humans First' Movement against Inhumans and outright funded the Watchdogs in exterminating Inhumans, is representing New York. The state who has Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Spider-man, the Punisher, and the Avengers.
season 4 happens in like, 2017 per the Marvel Wiki. this is in the wake of Jessica killing Kilgrave, the Midland Circle collapse and Frank Castle's trial among other things. the Watchdogs even have their own Judas bullets, though not updated like they were in Luke Cage.

It's actually wild that for the early seasons Skye is a non entity. Like she literally erased all traces of herself in every system she could find
You'd think that would come up more than it actually does. Especially when later on Daisy Johnson appears out of nowhere and suddenly attracts all kinds of interest i.e., making national headlines as a terrorist/vigilante and having multiple manhunts for her.
What does the government think about that? Do they think Daisy Johnson is an alias? That all the records of her that do exist (if any) are forged to hide her "real" identity?
Does the shield team ever really think about that? Or do they make their assumptions and move on? Or worse do they not even clock it until it's thrown in their faces?
The Shield team doesnt know anything about her outside of Coulson, and maybe May, Sadly. Let alone the US Government.
She has, presumably, a chinese birth record In China, which the US would NOT have access to, and then Nothing aside from fake ids till Mace had to presumably pull a *Bunch* of favours, cause he wouldn't've wanted her to hack herself back *in* before she had to testify infront of congress.
Realistically, she either got handed a bunch of IDs by Mace, or they claim that her info was deleted after the Shield Leak in Winter Soldier to protect her cover, and they are remaking the documents after the hearing.
(it's technically possible her citizenship paperwork was rejected, because it probably didn't have time to be accepted before the hearing, and then not much later everything with the LMDs happened and declared her an enemy of the state and terrorist, so like, considering we All know how long government paperwork takes, its very likely her ID was still being processed when that happened and it was rejected, and they never bothered reupping cause she went to space after s5 when they otherwise might've wanted her on the books cause they tried to legitimize again. And then when they finally got back from time travel, she pretty much went right back to space.
Its actually extremely likely she *Still* isn't a citizen if the timing lined up)
The person who probably knew the most about her shitty childhood and non-existence, aside from Coulson maybe, is Ward, who wouldn't've told the rest of the team (for obvious reasons) and wasn't really able to later. Oh, and Miles, who never interacts with the team again.
Hell the unnamed other members of the rising tide probably know more about her past than anyone on the team pre S7.
Her traumatic background is kind of totally unknown, as is any real details about the rising tide by the team, again, aside from maybe Coulson.
Especially to post-Terrigenesis teammates, like any of the "Real Shield" peeps who stuck around, or Yoyo, who presumably thinks she was a standard shield agent and probably a middle class american. In fact, chew on this: when Yoyo steals her mom's bones and tells her "We didn't choose you", not only does she have no idea of daisy's backround in the foster system or homelessness, she doesn't know who's bones they are, and I don't know if she ever learns.
Mack, bobbi, and Hunter were all too busy and didn't pay attention to anything that went on with her in s2, so they might not know either despite being On the Team at the time some of it was relevant.
yet another one of my favorite obscure daisy johnson topics: her citizenship!
many a fic have assumed that Daisy's kept a copy of her records in one of her USBs, since she showed Coulson a copy of her parent search in 1x05. it's also very likely, though, that she probably doesn't have a copy, and even if she did, it probably wouldn't be accepted as valid since they're not in the system and files from cyberterrorism is generally frowned upon in the law.
i've thought before that Daisy could technically apply for refugee or asylum in the US given the Village Massacre and the SHIELD Intervention, but it's very likely that the government will jump on the possibility that Daisy is an illegal immigrant, considering the elusive yet canon president come 2017 in the MCU. add the fact that China doesn't recognize dual citizenship for those 18 and up, she'd technically be stateless. i've always thought of Daisy's registration into an American orphanage as cancelling her native citizenship, which is also probably why her Marvel Wiki page lists Chinese as her former citizenship.
HOWEVER, should these records of her existence be non-retrievable, and revisiting this subject matter once again, Daisy is technically still an American citizen, for the following reasons:
Cal and Jiaying had plans to move to Wisconsin. This implies they've started the US visa process for Jiaying and acquired citizenship for Daisy. *Some few years ago I found a process from the 1980s that mentioned a one-way special visa for Chinese passports of dual-US citizens, but I can't find my sources on that anymore and I feel like Cal and Jiaying would rather settle Daisy's citizenship first. they seem set on the move, possibly to avoid the one-child policy at the time, among other reasons.
Cal will have to get a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) to get Daisy her citizenship and a US passport. Since China only started issuing birth certificates in 1996, the process would require a notarized birth record based on Jiaying's hukou (local household register) to prove her legitimate birth, which also implies that Jiaying has a local record in Hunan that says she is Daisy's mother.
As China has absolutely zero tolerance on dual citizenship, Daisy can't get a Chinese passport. Cal and Jiaying probably already renounced the Chinese citizenship for her. What her parents can get is a Single-Use Exit/Entry paperwork that will allow her to leave China without it. This is valid for six months.
BUT they never got to use any of these papers because Hydra/SHIELD got to them. considering the Village Massacre, the Johnsons are assumed to be dead in Hunan. it is very likely that no one, bar a SHIELD tac team, lived to tell what happened there.
A CRBA isn't a birth certificate, but it's non-expiry and immediately grants a US citizenship by birthright. This cannot be revoked, the US can only revoke citizenship for naturalized citizens. CRBAs are stored by the National Archives though, so there is a non-zero chance that Daisy's records are still intact somewhere. She's only been able to erase herself under Skye or Mary Sue Poots, not by her actual legal name.
a looooot of this is hinging on a lot of assumptions though. She could still technically retain dual citizenship since she never left China on paper. She could only have Chinese citizenship if Cal didn't file the CRBA on time, though I doubt he did. he would've been on a working visa since permanent residence wasn't something China gave out until the 2000s. they even had plans to send Daisy to a charter school near Cal's practice and for Jiaying to pursue med school. or maybe those files were eventually settled by Coulson or Talbot come season 4 because Talbot credits Cal Johnson's Hyde formula for what would become the Patriot serum, and calls him explicitly as 'Agent Johnson's father.' also by legalization Coulson's original plan was to set up Daisy as SHIELD's Director. i don't think any other agency would accept her without a record lol
as you can see. i have thought of this a lot
BONUS: the real problem here, should any document be retrievable, is proving that Mary Sue Poots and Daisy Johnson are the same person. the sole link between these two is the Hunan Massacre. you'd have to drag out Lumley like hell to testify if May's witness to his admission in 1x12 isn't enough (which it probably might? i don't know)
I think we forget too easily that Daisy’s mother in all likelihood met Agent Carter. The Howling Commandos led by Agent Carter rescued her from Whitehall. Agent Carter uses Whitehall’s treatment of Jiaying as one of the reasons he will not get a deal. I think Agent Carter spoke to Jiaying personally. Just imagine all the fanfic potential.
rereading season 5 daisy whump that i wrote to be about 70% done (because i love whump, sue me) and it has a scene with Robin and Daisy and i'm thinking. here's Robin literally tormented by the visions of Daisy supposedly destroying the world (she technically did as an accessory) and everyone around her parroting that but when they reunite in the future, Robin actually thanks Daisy. this is after the Earth breaking apart btw. she also helped Fitz when Daisy was name-dropped. there's even the whole confused with moms thing since in the future (or even in the present), Robin would remember May more than Polly (sorry queen) but through all that she remembers that Daisy is a friend. she's not the Destroyer of Worlds even if she was there at ground zero, even if there was all of those stories going around. Robin never held any of that against Daisy even when life in the future was absolute shite. she knew Daisy enough to know that a lot of it was beyond Daisy's control and none that she wanted to happen.
if you listen carefully you can hear me poof into a pile of soft mush
