As a star fox fan, the movie was absolutely precious. As a mario fan, I got pretty disappointed nintendo basically changed everything about rosalina's backstory, so I'll ignore the movie canon and stick with my fav theory about rosalina's origins :)

I grew up with both smg and spm, so it's not surprising I fully believed this with all my heart because it actually makes a lot of sense:

Rosalina is human but somehow she has a lot of magic, can levitate, and is apparently immortal. Even so her mother appears to be a normal mortal human

Timpani was a normal girl while blumiere is a magical being (even his cape has stars on it, just like the underside of rosalina's dress)

Rosalina's father had a telescope, and she used to look at stars with him. Blumiere and timpani used to stargaze together too

The tree on the hill.

Both games were released in the same year, on the same generation of consoles
