and from tha side
ian, was it magnus who taught you that?
the niemann–nepomniachtchi match has just come to an end.
in the first game, hans got himself into a mate in a queen’s endgame: 48.Kg4? (should have been f5) 48...g6!, and after 49.f4 Qd1+ 50.Khh3 Qh1 51.Kg4 f5+ there was nothing left to do but resign.
in the second game, it was ian who walked into a mate in a rook endgame: 46.gxh4? (he should have moved his king down to the first rank), and after 46...Kf3 47.Kg1 e2, hans levelled the score.
they had to play armageddon. nepo won the toss to play black. he could have secured the much-desired draw had he found the line 48...Kg8! 49.Kxg5 Rb1+ 50.Kf2 Rb2, but in the game he played 48...Kg7? 49.Kxg5 Rb2? (mouse slip), but in any case the rook on b2 is captured with check.
now niemann meets carlsen, who defeated esipenko.

dvorkovich has been hit by eu sanctions and has suspended his duties as fide president.
until the september elections, anand will act as president. hope things will get a bit more lively.
here is a short clip from the fide meeting which he chaired: jamaica’s vote on sanctions against the russian and belarusian chess federations (watch with sound on).

there’s a view that ian is going too far and simply behaving in an unseemly manner by not shaking hans’s hand.
well i guess ian knows far more than we do.
ian’s glow up 👏👏
that’s 4-4 babe!

i love dubov for his spontaneity. playing a fairly important tournament from a lying position? totally his style.
man, i enjoy nepo’s streams. it’s the only place where grown men can openly declare their love for him in the comments without a hint of irony, whilst other grown men call him a shame of the country
‘whenever i get the chance, i hold you up as an example to my son, ian’
