and ive not internalized the idea that deadwood DOES exist in the PD universe, but it's like a cursed town that's some sort of supernatural anomaly. it exists, you can go there, but it's perpetually 2010 there. nobody leaves deadwood. you dont grow old there, or you do and then you reset. you dont move to deadwood, things dont change in deadwood. it is a place trapped in time, separate from the rest of the world

the only reason william managed to get out and rejoin the rest of the world is because he died and the supernatural effects of deadwood lost its grip on him and he was able to find out about the rest of the world being in a completely different time period

ALTERNATIVELY see also william dying and the wisps bringing him back but in another dimension. william dies and when he comes back he returns home because he's scared and he's only sixteen and what the fuck else do yo udo when you just fucking died at sixteen, but everything's just a little different.

his mom is a bit younger, his friends seem to have memories that he doesnt, it's a completely different year, technology isn't the same and everyone makes references he doesnt know or uses words he's never heard of. this isn't his world, these aren't his friends and family, things are just... wrong, here.
