You had known for a while this mission was going to be a long one.

Leon had told you all about it, atleast he told you what he could without putting you or anyone else in compromise. But he had promised when all was said and done he'd give you the full picture. You got the gist of it though, bodies were piling up.

One after the other, various survivors of Raccoon city were dying, all with the same black splotches for bruises. Their eye's hollow and bones pertruding like they hadn't eaten for days before they passed.

They were hollowed corpses and the mere thought worried you. Leon was a survivor of Raccoon city, was he to end up like them? You couldn't count how many nights were spent with him comforting you, reminding you that he wouldn't allow himself to end up like that, not while you were waiting at home for him.

..You were waiting at home for him.

So why couldn't you rid the pit in your stomach. You knew he'd be coming home.

He had to.

Nothing of this had been easy for Leon and yet he pushed because he had to. For himself, for Sherry, Claire and for everyone else who had been infected but most importantly for you too. He wasn't one to make promises, especially ones he couldn't keep.

Maybe he had been selfish promising you he'd return home, even more so when he knew there was a chance, a high chance of that not happening. But not even for a moment did he let that doubt cloud his judgement, it was depressing. So often enough when in rodehill, when in the east part of Raccoon city, hell even when in the center of it all he repeated to himself over and over again–

He will return home.

It acted as a motive.

Funnily enough, it worked a fair bit. But the deeper he went into the city..the orphanage and then the ARK itself, motive wasn't enough.

Motive didn't rewrite reality.

He was dying.

He had come to terms with it now. Before, the idea made him nervous, that was only natural. Most people got worried over death, feared it, sometimes he forgot he was only human and had every right to be scared when his demise practically loomed around the corner.

But he had made his peace with it, it didn't rid the fear, not entirely but atleast he could proudly say he had helped grace and he'd do it all over again because that's just who he was. Who he was made to be and he wouldn't change that.

But with a gun to his face, blood smeared around his mouth..all he could think about was you.

About how he had promised you he'd return home, it filled him with a bitter feeling knowing that he couldn't even keep his word. But you'd forgive him wouldn't you? He knew you'd probably hate him for a period of time, for lying, for not returning home but you'd eventually forgive him.

You had never been the type to hold a grudge after all.

He knew you'd be just fine, You had others from the DSO who could support you in his absence. One of his regrets were not succeeding, without a cure, Sherry would eventually pass aswell.

The girl he had cared for since she were a child would pass and he could do nothing about it.

But he couldn't do anything about it now.

Not with death staring him in the face.

When you had first got the call, you thought it had been some sick joke. You knew Leon wasn't the type to make such jokes but you'd prefer that over the reality you were living in.

At first you moved in a weird limbo, somedays you'd continue on glancing at the door as you waited for him to walk through with some injury and some stupid joke falling from his lips. Except that never happened, not even once. On other days you couldn't bring yourself to get out of bed, his side that used to be warm now just laid cold.

You couldn't look at it.

Looking at it just reminded you that he was gone.

That he wouldn't be back and fill up that space no more, wouldn't fill up the silence about how his back killed him or how he was getting old.

That was just a once positive memory that haunted and clung onto you like a parasite trying to suck what little life you had left out of you.

Sometimes you yelled, ranted into the silence begging why, why him? Why did the one good thing in your life have to be taken from you?

But most of the time you cried.

Sobbed.

Your own wails practically bounced off the walls of the apartment. This time there was no one to comfort you, no one to kiss away those tears and make some stupid joke so you'd laugh even if you didn't find them genuinely funny.

It was the stupidity of them.

You'd do anything to get that back, anything humanly possible.

But that was just it.

He wouldn't be coming back to you no matter how much you screamed and begged.

Time pretty much became an illusion to you, you never registered the days passing by any more. It was just another day without him and it never got easier. You had heard the saying that grief heals with time, you don't know when that applies. You don't know how much time it'd take before you begin to heal but part of you believes that will never happen, each day was a fighting battle, each night was filled with sleepless nights, always haunted by his face the moment you closed your eye's.

Time heals all wounds.

You don't agree with that.

You never will.

Time won't give you back what you lost, all time did was take and take.

One day it'd take his voice from you, then his face.

It'd take the memories of him from you, you had photo's sure. But that would never replace the real thing.

★ Mornings for Leon were a constant battle. It was rare he was home for days at a time given his Job but when he was? Well he wasn't fighting infected in the morning, he were fighting you. A fiesty little thing when you wanted to be, as stubborn as a mule too. He loved the quality, not when he faced the brunt of it though. Mornings were spent with him trying to get out of bed and you desperate for 'five more minutes' with him. It was never five minutes but he couldn't be mad about it either, staying in bed for a little longer wasn't the worst thing to him.

☆In the earlier stages of the relationship Leon learned rather quickly that you built habits and stuck to them religiously. One he was most familiar with by now was kisses, whenever he was leaving, whether for a mission or just a task as mundane as going to the shop, you began to insist for a kiss. You never cared what kind, could be as quick and simple as a kiss on the cheek or something more intimate but you insisted for it to happen. Called it 'good luck'.

★Time away was expected, Leon took jobs that resulted in him being away for days at a time. Not by choice but often enough he was the one most capable for the job. That was understood by you of course, still is even after all the time spent with one another but at some point that mission line blurred into making sure you two remained in contact. Of course while he was actively busy was out of the question, but the second Leon had some free time, it was spent on a call with you, just catching up, making sure everything was fine back home and you scolding him for any injuries he may have gained.

☆Injuries were a whole other thing, Leon often enough got patched up before he returned home. It didn't spare him from a scolding but it meant you didn't have to put in any work to clean him up. That's good right? Wrong. You cared deeply for the man, you never cared how much time you had to spend cleaning and patching up any of his wounds, so long as he was safe and sound at home with you, you'd do it all. You almost took offense He'd purposefully avoid giving you the work, was it so wrong you wanted to love and dote on him after a mission well done by fixing up his wounds?

★At the start of the relationship, agreeing with you was the safest bet. Just to see you happy and to spare himself the back and forth on a meaningless topic he didn't really care about. But even that only lasted for so long before you caught onto the lack of disagreements, not arguing, god no you'd never wish for that between you two but you noticed him almost always agreeing. At first you thought nothing of it but the more it happened the more suspicious you became, your suspicions were prooven correct when you made some outrageous claim and he still agreed. That was enough for his head to be chewed off, safe to say mindlessly agreeing didn't save him anymore.

"Leon!" Your voice filled the otherwise silent apartment which was followed by rapidly approaching footsteps.

Your gaze instantly landed on the door and the area around it, like part of you had expected him to have already left despite this whole routine being around since the earlier stages of your relationship.

But unsurprisingly you spotted the man, just waiting near by, arms crossed and a lazy grin, he looked as if he had all the time in the world. Like he was just patiently waiting for you to show up.

In a way, he was.

He wouldn't trade this little routine of yours for the world.

You practically beamed up at the other "Your forgetting something!"

Leon tilted his head slightly "Am I?" He feigned ignorance "I was just about to head out..I don't think I'm forgetting anything at all."

You stared at the man expectantly, not elaborating on what you meant. You knew that Leon knew what you were hinting at, this had gone on without a hitch every single day since you started this whole thing. Minus when he was away on jobs but you didn't count those, they were easy to write off.

He held your gaze for a few moment before he let out a small huff "Alright, alright, c'mere."

Leon held out his arms, which you instantly stepped into instinctively wrapping your own arms around his waist as he held onto you.

"Always so needy." He muttered but his smile didn't falter as he leaned his head down slightly, where you quickly met his lips, pressing a quick peck as you leaned away, a teasing grin on your lips.

"Maybe.. but you love it."

He did.
