Tumblr has made me wonder when I see a black person in public if they hate me just for being white...
I grew up in a mostly white neighborhood and tumblr was/is my first real contact with a lot of black people.
All I ever see from (some) black people is hate for white people. How, because of my skin color, I’m automatically racist and every little thing I do could/deserves to be mocked by one of them on tumblr. How I’m ugly and should die for being white, both of which have been said to me personally many times. I could have my photo taken unknowingly and spread around for everyone to ridicule.
I’m an optomist. I like to believe people are good and I love everyone. I’ve always stood up against racism in my actual life regardless of not coming into contact with many “poc”. So it sucks. It sucks to now wonder if the skin color I was born with warrants hate and mockery from a black person who happens to see me out in public. Someone who doesn’t even know me.
Before you say it, NO I’m not saying I’m oppressed. This has nothing to do with oppression. This is just me venting. You can call “white tears” if you want but my feelings are still valid. You can say “now you know how it feels!!” but that doesn’t make it right for this to be happening. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
Can we stop this us vs them mentality?
Can we stop judging entire groups of people and people we don’t know?
Its just a weird feeling that I wanted to talk about.
