Being an intersex ally
Hey folks, it’s not ok to share talking points on transgender issues that use intersex simply as a justification for the existence of trans people. Worse, it is seriously wrong when that material calls intersex traits “disorders”, while rejecting the disordering of trans identities.
MALTA has become the first country in the world to outlaw medical practitioners or other professionals from conducting any involuntary or coerced surgical intervention on minors with intersex variations. The Gender Identity Gender
As intersex people we still have no autonomy over our bodies, and as much as this bill is a step in the right direction, it is a horrifying reminder that it is perfectly legal to non-consensually operate on intersex minors in all other countries in the world. Let that sink in. - Mod H
Inter/Act is so proud of Pidgeon, Alice, Emily, and Saifa for telling the world their stories in this buzzfeed video. Show them some love!!
A great short video from Inter/Act and Buzzfeed!
A follow-up article on SBS by OII Australia president Morgan Carpenter to a previous week's television feature on intersex. "One of our key human rights issues is not really the existence of binary genders, but what is done medically to make us conform to those norms."

The Feed on SBS screened a feature on intersex Tuesday night, featuring Morgan (OII Australia), Bonnie (AISSGA), a parent and a clinician. It's a decent and recommended introduction. Hopefully it will encourage folks to find out more - including about past clinical practices, and now. Human rights advocacy work is core to our work, for clear and evidenced reasons regarding current medical practices.
Last week, Nightline ABC aired a segment in which Advocates for Informed Choice President Sean Saifa Wall courageously confronted his childhood surgeon on a segment of Nightline ABC last week…
Hey ya’ll. We worked with producers at Nightline for more than a year because we understand that intersex is a complex topic that is easily misunderstood, especially in a brief 10 minute segment. With that said, we edited the original video segment with a few corrections and further explanation. We hope our edits can help clarify some lingering questions help heal our community.
My first vlog ever is up on YouTube! In it, I talk a little about myself and my channel. If you want to see an intersex guy talk and ramble about stuff – as well as learn more about intersex every now and then – then go ahead and subscribe!
New vlog! Best of luck, Eli.
Hey, ya’ll - I wrote a thing!
One thing I want to correct: I have a LOT of hope that Indian sprinter Dutee Chand will run in the upcoming Olympics! Help ensure her ban is lifted from competition: http://www.letduteerun.org/
Thanks for writing this, Claudia!

Open community social events for people with intersex variations will start in Sydney, Australia, on 9 December 2014, in partnership between OII Australia and the Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome Support Group Australia (AISSGA).
We will meet on the second Tuesday of every month, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
The free social events will take place in a private social space at Twenty10: 1st floor, 45 Chippen Street, Chippendale. The space is close to Central and Redfern stations, and the building has lift access.
Anyone with an intersex variation is welcome, as are parents and families of children and adults with intersex variations. You don’t need to be a member of either organisation to come along.
Food and drink (no alcohol) will be provided.
The events are very kindly supported by the City of Sydney and Twenty10.

We did this, with Pride in Diversity: the employers’ guide to intersex inclusion.
It contains information on intersex bodies, identities, medical issues in the workplace, some short case studies and a whole lot more. It’s also useful for intersex inclusion in service delivery and general reference.

(Part two!) So my question is to what this referred: "The description is problematic, conflating intersex with non-binary identities, and using slurs." I haven't been following the flag posts very closely, since I don't know much about the issue and don't personally care about the flags, but I just went back and read them and couldn't find anywhere that we used slurs or conflated intersex with non-binary. Would you mind pointing out that content so I can remove it? Thanks!
Hi, thanks for replying. It's the original author's description of the Bigender Flag (later renamed intersex flag elsewhere) that is problematic, not your references. Take a look at what we see is the original version, from the date. Edit history retained: http://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bigender_pride.pngIf you have research that should change our understanding then it would be great if you could share it. Thanks!
