Interrobangbangable

This is one of my favourite ideas of all time. The world needs more of this.

I was just reminded of this enviable project. Chris Milk’s work had a considerable influence on my thinking about ‘shareable’ content. The quality of participation in The Johnny Cash Project and the ease of participation in The Wilderness Downtown demonstrated two different ways to engage an audience. Technology and ‘never been done before’ will never trump connection and emotional investment, but tech + feels is a magical combination. 

I’ve experimented with the Pomodoro technique in the past. It’s great for freelancing or doing anything productive from a home office, it’s a lot trickier to implement in an open-plan agency environment - unless you can magically block distractions & interruptions. 

I think we’re all a little (or a lot) over Buzzfeed’s clickbait listicles, but this podcast they’ve developed with Lena Dunham is top shelf. (I can say that one episode in - I know I’m going to love it hard.) It feels incredibly intimate and engaging, can’t wait for ep 2!

I feel a little late to this party, but Amanda Palmer was as raw and open and generous as any writer could wish to be. Colour me inspired.

Who stole my bliss? Was it Joseph Campbell? Did he take it to the grave with him? I’d better read ‘The Power of Myth’ to find out.

I love digging in to a bit of communication theory, I always get some insight out of it. According to the quiz I’m an ‘intuitive’ communicator, but reading through all the profiles I could relate to something in all of them. For example, I’m not a ‘feelings’ kinda person in the workplace, but I do invest time in building relationships and understanding how team members are feeling. So I wonder, are communication styles more sensitive to the precise context of each piece of communication? Is it useful to label people a ‘type’? Or could it be more valuable to teach multiple styles to everyone? I imagine we each have a ‘natural’ style, but also have the capacity to develop other styles that adapt to a variety of situations and participants. A ‘responsive’ style of communicator would most likely be more effective across the board, so let’s all aim for that. Am I right? 

I just watched Glass a portrait of Philip in twelve parts, which was pretty damn inspiring. I have such respect for him, (with a hint of jealousy). He says some pretty insightful things, I’ll probably find more good stuff in his memoir. 

I know ‘The Gap’, when I was a devout perfectionist it pushed all my buttons. I didn’t quit.

Sesame Street is my go to for inspiration. Forever and always. Absurdity is sometimes the answer. 

I love it when marketing solves a problem with its product. What’s not to love?

Raising money just by being a cute video. 

New apps mean new opportunities.
