Welcome To Endless Wonder

harleen walked to her car slowly, key in hands, and only the dimly lit street lights guiding her way. work had been tough, and because of finding steve on her desk with a card that said ‘ from j’ she was on edge.  So, the moment a hand reached inside her jacket pocket, she had reached to her side and gripped it tightly, twisting and flipping the girl onto the ground in front of her.  Upon realizing this wasn’t a man, and seeing in fact, this was a child– her eyes widened in surprise.  “ are you alright? what were you thinking?” She snapped, offering her hand. caring nature took over her mind,                                                          NURTURE OVER NATURE  if this had been a man, she would have kicked him to death, after a want for violence seemed wanted . at least it wasn’t needed. this was a child though, a child trying to steal her money, and something felt familiar about that. 

This was not something new for her, it wasn't the first time she had done this. She was, after all, the best thief in all of Gotham. She'd pickpocketed the most noble of Gotham's citizens without them even blinking an eye, so she had no worry when it came to wandering the streets and stealing from the normies. They were the easiest targets. Even if they did notice their wallets, watches, purses missing, they never noticed before she was gone.

Which was exactly why she went into a state of pure shock with this blonde woman flipped her right onto her back, the moment her small hand reached into her pocket. This was certainly new. She'd never been caught before. Not in the actual act. And she'd never been attacked.

As the woman began to speak, Selina jumped to her feet, a knife slipping from her sleeve into her hand. She was ready to attack at any moment. If this was going to be a fight, she would fight. But the woman's voice was gentle, full of concern. Okay? What in the hell was going on? What was she supposed to say?

“Cat, if and when I go to Arkham again, I want you to take Ethan away from Gotham, don’t tell me where just anywhere that he can be safe. I’ll even give you money to do this, because I know from how Martin was treated and he didn’t want the system to take his son and ruin him.

“Mmmm his mother’s the woman who hung around Joker for a while you know her as Harley Quinn.” 

Honestly though, she was kind of taken aback when Oswald said he wanted her to take his son. Her? Of all people? She wasn’t that much better than him, not anymore. Sure, she had her in with Gordon and it kept her from serious trouble, but did he really want that?

He picked the baby up and rocked him until the boy’s green eyes widened at the world around him. 

With that she hurried off to her littles, finding the eldest of them and letting him know he was in charge until she returned. She wasn't too worried about them, after all it was midday and she'd left them alone in this park before.

“Cat, if and when I go to Arkham again, I want you to take Ethan away from Gotham, don’t tell me where just anywhere that he can be safe. I’ll even give you money to do this, because I know from how Martin was treated and he didn’t want the system to take his son and ruin him.

It wasn’t unusual for Selina to find herself at the park midday, the older kids often switched out taking the little ones to the park. Today happened to be her turn. What was unusual though was for her to see Penguin there.

Sneaking around behind him, Selina leaned into his ear and… “BOO!” Then quickly jumped back before he could turn around. Without even waiting for a response she moved around the opposite side of the bench and kneeled before the baby.

 “Oh don’t sing that, he tends to listen to what his mother sings for him despite how macabre it is it works for him.”

"I know we're villains but don't you think that's a little harsh? Telling a baby you're gonna rip his eyeballs out? Especially after scolding me for yelling boo?"

Selina was all for the creepy and scary side of Gotham, hell she'd gone face to face with Scarecrow on her own, but not when it came to kids. And Ethan wasn't even a kid, he was just a little baby.
