i know people have come up with a variety of ways to interpret the vessels' level of sentience so im not sure if this is a mad cold take but ive always been attracted to the idea that vessels when first created are very near to the blank empty thing the pale king wanted them to be. near but not completely. near enough to be plausibly mistaken for it. and that it is only and necessarily through continuous exposure to the world that they uncover more and more personhood. that is to say, i wish for there to be an incredible irony in the pale king identifying correctly a possible vessel and in the process itself dooming the vessel to become impure. you know. metaphor for having children and all.
been thinking about this again. a hollow knight that slowly learns what it wants and what it means to want something at the same time it is also slowly learning what it means that its not supposed to. only realizing its a cage once youve grown into the bars and wanting nothing more than to go back to being small and blank and ignorant again. and at the same time the growing is such joy, how could you wish it away so easily?
a hollow knight that is the ONLY one of its siblings that has the chance to grow beyond the void at all, because it was chosen to be the pure vessel. a hollow knight that is constrained to be only the void it used to be and no longer is, because it was chosen to be the pure vessel.

Hi! What did you think of Memories in Orbit :0 (dw about spoilers)
first of all the graphics are stunning. the controls feel a little bit slow(I say it as a skonger). it sometimes feels like it's doing other things than my input. idk about lore that much.
also ROBO BUGS <3
the map is kinda tricky to traverse as well.
it was a good time overall.
best character
Yeah the pencil & paintbrush art style really wowed me in the demo, it's a big part of what turned me on to the game. I ended up really liking the score too, I'd be curious to hear what a composer like yourself thinks of it.
I also occasionally noticed what felt like missed inputs in some of the platforming sections, although it didn't really hamper me except for a few really tight parts of the Crucible. Did you play on keyboard or controller?
Mel is awesome. I really love a lot of the character designs from this game but hers especially. Did you see the line of dialogue where she invites Mio to train with her or something? I was really excited when I got it but nothing seemed to come of it afterwards so I've been wondering if there was more to it for anyone else.

always complain about things. okay, you know how programmers explain their code to rubber ducks when it's not working? same principle. an appliance breaks down. I get pissed off, try everything, go through the various stages of despair etc. I complain about it to a friend and explain why it frustrates me so bad, and suddenly I'm thinking 'wait I should try unplugging it and then doing a factory reset and then—' and I go home and do that and it starts working again. I keep losing my earrings. I complain about it to a friend, about how I keep them all in a little dish but then the specific one I want always dematerialises the moment I want it. my friend says 'I just keep them on the little card backs they came with' and I think well shit, I always throw those out. but then I think aha I can make a bunch of pinholes in a decorative postcard. genius. I read a story. it's about something I'm usually into, but for some reason I don't like this story at all. I complain about it, I figure out what irritates me about it, I have a great idea for a way better story. I try a new recipe, it doesn't come together. I bitch about it like crazy, about what I thought I did right and how it failed, and before I know it I'm explaining out loud which parts I'm inexperienced at or didn't understand or adjusted wrong. I need a little table for drawing on. I complain about it in the group chat, two days later someone says 'hey I spotted the kind of table you're looking for on the side of the road, do you want to come pick it up'. I complain, endlessly. my life is enriched. the art of complaining.
this has never been more true btw

authors notes: there is absolutely no one true meaning intended for this piece, but I guess my thoughts while making it were the plain, boring and literal way you talk about the world after seeing something traumatic , or the way things seem to lose all meaning and significance . and also the way you minimise an event to make it sound like it's not so bad , the way you remove detail from the memory.
like .. there is something over the river . there is something unspeakable over the river . when you recount it , you have to make it seem so small . it's just a body. the state the body is in can't be made out like this . you hide the details from yourself to forget how bad it really looked . you hide it in general - so insignificant you could miss it entirely ! it was just a body and The Something that killed it looming , and birds flying away .
and the world could be full of colour , but you can't see it that way any more . the grass is just grass . the trees are just trees . the fish in the river that's just a river are just fish , and that's just a body .
Also SPOILERS for anyone who wants the solution to the eye-spy:
so enchanted by this fella, i had to draw him

when i think of yume nikki, i go back to being a teenager in the dark and alone in my room, way past my bedtime with my entire house quiet except the soundtrack quietly trickling out of my laptop and the unexplainable eeriness of what would be waiting for me

Finally some good news: recent studies show that the suffering is not unlimited after all, and it's just that its limits lie beyond our powers of comprehension.
If I'm not mistaken, the Bekenstein bound for a 1500g object with radius 90mm suggests there are at most 2^(1.671 * 10^42) distinct levels of suffering a human brain could experience. Large, but finite!

I need to know what these things are
My favouritest sport fact ever is that in 1990s 2 cardiac surgeons watched an f1 race to save the lives of countless kids. The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) kept losing the lives of patients after successful heart surgeries. Specifically the 10-15 minutes after a bonefide clinically successful surgery patients would die:
And so the two surgeons filmed a handover after heart surgery and sent it to the Ferrari pitcrew who were told to critique and improve handover process
And from this:
we got this:
The error rate during patien handovers dropped from 30% to 10% with the F1 informed protocol.
I literally love this fact so much because being an pitcrew member is such a thankless job because theyre underpaid and overworked mechanics and they literally saved lives in this instance.
Doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital turned to Formula 1 for answers. By studying Ferrari’s pit-stop teamwork, they redesigned how patien
I love this!
And it that it wasn't a one and done.
The doctors went to the race tracks to watch the car changes and the pit crews went to the hospitals and watched a live transfer and offered suggestions and they kept working with them to improve.
After there was a successful improvement of the most vital metrics of a handover of a patient from surgery to ICU, the pit crews also worked with other hospitals for other procedures and it's now a whole thing of trying to apply the specialized, streamlined and speedy teamwork and nonverbal coordination of pit crews to other high-risk fields.
This is a perfect example of how two very different fields of knowledge meeting can make a huge leap forward in progress.
