"I'm supposed to be in trouble. You aren't."

The muscles in his arm twitches with the urge to reach out and steady her; it remains still by his side while he watches her carefully in case it turns out she does need the help.

Lucy looked over at him, a single brow raised and something that was almost an amused smile twitched on her lips. She was pretty sure everyone in this city was destined for trouble at one point or another.

“Whatever you say, big guy.” she muttered with a small scoff. 

Her frown returned in full force as she looked down at her arm. A bullet had grazed her at one point. She wasn’t sure how deep it was; she could feel something warm and wet trickling down her arm despite the piece of torn shirt she was tied around it. But it was just a graze, so even though it hurt like a bitch, she told herself it wasn’t a big deal.

"No, no , I'm good. Thanks." Ryland sits down, rubbing his hands across his knees as he does, the rough denim grounding. The mention of juice boxes, clearly meant for his nephew, made him smile a bit before shaking his head.

“Well, that’s the thing, really; I’m not teaching - at least not right now.” A slight frown crosses his face as he says this. He wasn’t happy with the way he had left things, and he was sure the school wasn’t happy with him. He wished he had been able to say goodbye to his kids. He hadn’t been able to even leave a lesson plan for the substitute. But being practically kidnapped by the government hadn’t left him with many options at the time. “I’m working with the Petrava task force, and I guess I just wanted to drop by while I could. I’ll be busy for a while, and you might not be able to reach me.”

ROCKY TINKERS. IT IS WHAT 'HE' DOES — he, assigned the male gender by Grace, the gender that most Earth languages default to. Gender and sex is still somewhat lost upon the Eridian, but Rocky has nothing but time to learn, and Grace has nothing but time to teach. ( A favorite of Grace's, Rocky had learned! ) Within the ball, Rocky messes with the items in his grasp as he listens to the steady breathing of Grace beside him, and the sounds of Earth that is projected on the screens around them.

Everything Rocky had told Grace about his kind made them sound like an incredibly peaceful people. But then, Grace hadn’t exactly told Rocky about all the darker parts of humanity, of which there were plenty. He knew if the situation were reversed and he was bringing Rocky back to Earth, many people there wouldn’t be as welcoming. He didn’t want to think that way about the Eridians - really, he was very excited to meet more of them - but there wasn’t much else to do on the Hail Mary but think and overthink.
