The first conversation between you and Jack
You needed to go down from the pathology department to the ED to relay urgent positive results since no one was picking up your calls to the ED.
Well...'needed' is quiet an exaggeration. But, it just felt like if you didn’t move around any time soon, you were gonna doze off in the next minute or so. Plus, it didn't help that you were feeling the beginning stages of a cold (hoping it's not the flu), making you extra tired and sleepy.
You wouldn’t get a slap on the wrist from your superior if you didn’t relay the results verbally, all that required of you was to call the requesting department once, maybe twice if you had the time to do so, and if no one picked up, then you made a note of it on the laboratory's management system.
So, you printed the results highlighting the line that included 'POS'. After taking your lab coat off, you washed your hands thoroughly and made the 10-minute walk to the ED.
You entered through the ED's entrance and stood still looking over the department. The quiet nature of your lab was nothing compared to what you were hearing and seeing right now; the vast number of patients, staff, and various overlapping noises. There was just a certain buzz about the ED that made its way under your skin and had you perk up.
You looked down at the results sheet you printed, searching for the consulting doctor's name: Dr. Ellis Parker.
Just as you were looking up, preparing to make the walk to search for a Dr. Parker or anyone that could help, you found a man already looking at you with his hands on his hips.
“You look like you’re sick”
“Well thank you for that…” you tilted your head leaning a bit forward to look at his badge “…Dr Abbot”
"You're very welcome..." he tilted his head to take a look at your badge, mirroring what you did. But, you had your staff ID flipped: with its blank back facing outwards and your staff information facing inwards.
“Miss...? Dr...? Blank”
“Ha, very funny” you said sarcastically
"You have your badge facing the wrong way"
“Yeah I know. I don’t like patients that don’t need to know my name knowing my name. I’ve had my fair share of stalkers so…”
He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, clasping his hands behind his back and tipping his head back looking down at you. His brows slightly drawn in together.
"Well, I'm not a patient, I'm the attending physician here" He titled his head with a slight smile continuing "am I still not allowed a name?"
“Well, you will be a patient here if you say I look sick again “

You actually were sick, why did you feel offended? Defensive??? Probably feeling insecure since a gorgeous heartthrob of a doctor was looking at your pale and not-so-put-together self.
“I…I’m so sorry I don’t know what came over me, I shouldn’t joke like that when we don’t even know each other, that was rude of me. I- I actually am sick… got a cold. It's probably the”
He cut you off by a wave of his hand in a 'don't worry about it' gesture.
He smiled at you saying "You're alright, everyone's inhibition starts wearing away around 3AM. Plus, I probably deserved that. I did deserve it. I shouldn't go around telling people they look sick"
Then he instantly put both of his hands up in defence, shaking his head and blurting "Not that I do it often...or for sport"
You smiled in relief looking at his raised forearms. Great, both of us are fumbling this interaction.
“I hope not. So... you're not gonna report me then...?” You looked at him through your lashes, smiling.
"Well how could I report you if I don't know your name?"
You chuckled saying “Then let’s keep it that way for my job’s sake, Dr. Abbot.”
