READ: Mark 5:21-34

“Now thanks be unto God,  which always causeth us to triumph in Christ… “ - 2 Corinthians 2:14

Under the ministry of Jesus, several people experienced personal breakthroughs. Who were they? And why did they receive these miracles?

You will remember what Jesus said about the woman with the issue of blood. What was the secret of her breakthrough? Jesus gave the answer, “…Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole…” (Mark 5:34).

Blind Bartimaeus received his sight miraculously. But Jesus took notice of him and healed him. What was his secret? His secret was faith in God. Jesus said to Bartimaeus, “…thy faith hath made thee whole…” (Mark 10:52). 

The sinful woman who poured an alabaster box of ointment on Jesus’ feet also received a miracle of forgiveness. Why did Jesus forgive her? Jesus said to the woman, “…thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace” (Luke 7:50).

Ten lepers were healed and the one who came back was made whole. Why did this leper receive an extra blessing? Jesus said the same words to him, “.…Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.” (Luke 17:19).

READ: John 10:31-39

“Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?” - John 10:32

Every leader comes face to face with ingratitude. People are not grateful for the services you render them.  It will not take you long to discover this.

Years ago, I found out that people whom I loved could turn around and hurt me. Men that I had trained did not remember that they had been helped. However, I have continued to believe in people and to trust people. I have no choice. If I begin to retaliate because of ingratitude, I will lose my position. Jesus experienced ingratitude. He was killed by an ungrateful mob of Jews. 

Jesus was murdered for His good deeds. He was exchanged for an armed robber. But He never responded to the evil spirit of ingratitude. Do not look to people for gratitude. A leader looks to God for rewards. “Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free” (Ephesians 6:8).

The Scripture teaches that your rewards depend on God and not on the people you helped. God is the only one who can reward you adequately. Do not expect much from people, expect your rewards from God.

READ: Genesis 11:1-9; 12:1-9; 13:1-2

“…for without me ye can do nothing” - John 15:5b

Jesus  said that  without  being spiritual, that is, close to God, you cannot succeed in this life: “…with-out me you can do nothing….”  It may seem like some people achieve a lot without Him, but I tell you that the end of those things is frustration, and emptiness.

The story of the Tower of Babel is a good illustration of men coming together to achieve something for themselves. All their human efforts without God ended in confusion and scattering.

Similarly, all the efforts we make without God will end in confusion and scattering. Many attempts to be happily married have ended in confusion and divorce. Many attempts to be rich have ended in confusion and division. Many attempts at higher education and higher achievement have resulted in confusion and despair.

Only the Lord can do these things for us. A perfect example is found just a few verses after the unfortunate story of the men of Babel. It is the story of Abraham. Abraham lived a life in obedience to God. God told him, “…I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great…(Genesis 12:2, NASB). Isn’t it amazing that all the goals of the men of Babel were promised freely to Abraham? Abraham received every one of these promises.

Expect a series of victories in 2019. “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4). Your faith is the obedience and implementation of the word of God in your life. Faith without works is nothing (James 2:17). As you obey and implement the word of God, you begin to have faith. As you implement one thing after the other, you will find yourself having more and victories. You will keep changing and your life will be changing.

In Luke 2, you will find the beginning of the series of victories that you are going to experience. One of the greatest victories you will have is to be like Jesus Christ your savior. These things will happen in your life in 2019. “And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him” (Luke 2:40). You are going to grow! When you are a grown-up, what you once could not carry before you are able to carry and what you could not bear you are able to bear. In 2019, you are growing up to be stronger and more capable in every area of your life. This year, it is not about decreasing but about increasing in your life. Expect to grow in every aspect of your life. You are going to be stronger in spirit than ever before! You are going to be stronger spiritually. If you lie easily, you are not spiritual. Lies are our defense for our mistakes and our mistakes are many. When you are strong in spirit, up tend to be more truthful. From this year, you are going to be stronger in spirit. You are going to be filled with God’s wisdom! Not the wisdom of the world. Do not admire what the world admires. When you see that the whole world admires something, start noticing red flags in your spirit. Develop allergies and antibodies against the things the world admires. Do not admire what the world admires. It leads you on a path because it the wisdom of this world. “This wisdom descendeth not from above, but it earthly, sensual, devilish” (James 3:15). In 2019, you will be filled with God’s wisdom. The grace of God is going to be on your life in 2019. Grace means undeserved favor. This year, many things you do not deserve, God will do for you. You do not deserve a beloved because you have broken seven hearts already but God will do it for you. You do not deserve a child because you have thrown away so many children already but God will give you what you do not deserve. You do not deserve a job because you are too proud to work humbly but the grace of God will give you the job you do not deserve. You do not deserve to be helped because when it was your time to help, you did not do it but the grace of God will give you this undeserved help. In 2019, may you experience things you do not deserve in Jesus’ mighty name. In 2019, expect a series of victories. Expect what you do not deserve in Jesus name.

READ: Romans 16:17-18

“And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?” - Luke 16:12

Some pastors are not happy to bear much fruit if they are doing it under the banner of someone else’s ministry. I have watched as ministers have left the place of fruitfulness and moved into the deserts of ministry. Often it is more important for them to be independent than to be fruitful. But it should be the desire of every minister to bear much fruit. Unfortunately the desire for money, position and fame is not compatible with the desire for fruitfulness. Are you looking for independence or are you looking for fruit?                 

There are times ministers of the gospel have to choose between preaching to rich congregations or poorer congregations. Often, there are many more people to evangelise in poverty- stricken regions of the world. In these poverty-stricken regions, there is little money to be earned by a preacher. Are you looking for money or are you looking for fruit?

Fruitfulness must be on top of the agenda of every true man of God. Always ask yourself, “What can I do to bear more fruit than I am already bearing?” This is the reason why I want to have more churches. This is the reason I constantly press for church growth. That is why I write more books and preach as much as I do. I am striving for fruitfulness. I know that “Herein is the Father glorified…”
