=You have one new message|Father of Death Starters=
βWhat do they say?β
His fists tightened for just a moment. He was used to fear, he was used to curiosity, but not admiration. She seemed to speak about his actions with some sort of excited fascination. In his mind, that was strange. To him, hurting people was just what he did. It wasnβt something he had ever fantasized about, not something he wanted before he started doing it. To her, hurting people seemed like something to aspire to. It was entirely alien to him to think that way.
βThereβs worse things than death here.β
Father of Death starters - Accepting!
βYeah. Me. Us.β
The man Riichard believed he was standing beside was the most formidable man that he had ever seen. Together they were unstoppable. Unfortunately, he wasnβt with that man. That man was dead, just like Richard and his new friend were likely to be any moment now. Somewhere in the depths of Richardβs damaged mind he understood this reality, but something rational in him allowed him to disregard it. It was easier to pretend that things were certain to turn out okay. A nearby phone rang in his mind, and when he answered it the voice on the other end gave him a clear message.
βFake itΒ βtil you make it.β
And so he did. He obeyed, like always.

When they hang me from the rope tonight
Will you be waiting there for me?
Will our souls remember where we said we would meet
on the way out of this town?
Iβm leaving one way or the other
Thereβs nothing left here for me now.
The Interview | closed with inncranimal |
@inncranimal
Β Β Funny how Miles could actually manage to be a little nervous. He reported on a war and yet the idea of meeting with a murderer still sent chills down his spine. He saw plenty of death and violence back then. But soldiers killing soldiers at least made sense. Since the dawn of civilization, men had been fighting petty wars of land or gods. It seemed almost sane, despite the way it cut deep into your soul. People killing others on the streets of American citiesβ¦ It was frightening.Β
Β He had seen men coldly recall the details of murders. It wasnβt any that he reported on, but he watched enough documentaries. He had seen people filled with remorse or insanity. He wondered which he would see first-hand today. He had done his homework. Richard J. Grady was the killer. He probably broke a world fucking record on the amount of murderers committed by one man.Even if many of the men killed were criminal bastards that the cops couldnβt put away. Most wouldnβt be missed. Still, the brutality of the murders was horrific. He was a veteran. Same war Miles had reported on. Low-income, down on his luck.Β
Β He was already walking down the hall to the room where Richard was being kept. Not his cell, of course. Miles had to spend a shit load of money to get him alone. A guard was outside, but he wanted this interview to be one on one. They were gonna make a movie based on his case, and Miles thought it would be interesting to hear what really happened. Maybe he could even make some money. After being fired from the company he worked for, he had to do something. He just hoped this wasnβt a waste of time. It cost this monthβs rent to get the scumbags running this prison to let him be alone with the guy.Β
Β Once he reached the door, he checked his camera. Ready to go. With a deep breath, he opened it. This guy apparently wasnβt very talkative, and Miles had no clue why he thought he could get anything out of him. After all, he was hardly great with people.Β
Β Richard was sitting at an old table that looked like it belonged out back in a dumpster. Miles glanced back at the guard in the hallway before heΒ walked in a shut the door behind him. Across from where the other was sitting was another chair, and he took a seat in it.Β
βHi, Mr. Grady.β He didnβt look like a killer. But what did a killer look like anyway?Β βMy name is Miles Upshur. Iβm a journalist. Do you mind if I film our conversation?βΒ
βNo.β
His eyes didnβt meet with the reporterβs. Instead,Β he focused on his hands, bound my steel cuffs the chain rattling slightly each time he wrung them. His skin was like sandpaper, rough and calloused. Not from fighting, but from all of the times heβd injured himself in solitary. Β Richard wasnβt a man of words. He spoke inΒ the language of violence. His hands were the instrument by which he communicated, and they were no longer his to use. Binding his hands was worse than cutting out his tongue, as it robbed him of theΒ only true form of expression he had. In solitary, where his hands were free, he would swing at phantoms. Some imagined, some hallucinated, and perhaps some true hauntings.
βYou remember the deal?βHis head stayed down, but his eyes met the reporterβs.βYou try and spin what I say, then fuck you. You show exactly what I say. No sensationalist bullshit, no presumptions, just exactly what I say, how I say it. Deal?β
Hope was distant memory for him. He wasnβt hoping to accomplish anything in particular Β with this interview. Heβd decided that he was just going to spend his final days waiting to die a long time ago. He just wanted a chance to tell his story without thinking about legally defending himself. He knew that nothing he did would change what heβd already done, or what was going to happen, but he still wanted to take a chance. Itβs a shame that he had to take that chance on Miles Upshur.

The Father of Death Sentence Starters
II. The Good Doctor
βI swore upon his/her grave, someday I would make things right.β βTheyβve waited so long for this day.β βMy father worked into his grave.β βListen to yourself, then listen carefully to me.β βWell here it is: our chance to take back everything weβve earned.β βThere is no price they wouldnβt pay.β βDonβt turn your back on me!β βWhat will I become with the things I will create?β βI never said that men should bow. I never said that men should break.β βI only want to help.β βYou underestimate the character of man.β
III. The Father of Death
βWhat have I done?β βI will not be the father of death.β βEverything that I have done, I have done for you, but itβs turned out all wrong.β βI will find a way to make this right!β βWhat are you doing here?β βIβm not going anywhere.β
IV. The Hounds
βI can almost hear the houndsβ¦β βHow can you question whoβs to blame?β βIt does not matter where you hear it from, whether truth or lies, It gets said all the same.β βThere is a flame that Iβve been fanning.β βThere is a hell that has been building from the moment we first met.β βThese are the paths that we must take. Cause you and I, we are men and we can bend and we can break.β
V. The State vs. Thomas Light
βBut it doesnβt matter what theyβll do to me.β βHave they forgotten you when they set their sights on me?β βThey will hang me from the rope tonight.β βWill you be waiting there for me?β βThereβs nothing left here for me now.β βBut either way itβs all my fault.β βI feel like a dead manand what can a dead man do?β
VIII. Breaking Out
βThe city doesnβt know whatβs coming, She doesnβt feel the heat.β βIβm breaking out of here tonight.β βThereβs gotta be something better, something that feels more alive.βΒ βLike this whole city wants to scream, but no one makes a sound.β βSo Iβm going to find out what it is and Iβm going to tear it down.β βWe donβt have time for goodbyes.β βI know you canβt come with me.β βSo kiss me fast cause thereβs no time to lose.β βWhen everything is said and done, I swear Iβm gonna make it right.β βIβm so tired of giving up.β Β Β Β βSometimes I just want to drive until the streets run out.β βWhen I get back there will be hell to pay.β
IX. Keep Quiet
βIβve seen your face in the shadows.β βIβve heard them whisper about you.β βBut men, they say a lot of foolish things.β βThe only words I can find to believe in are mine.β βThis city, sheβd been dead for years now.β βDeath is not something that scares me.β βThereβs worse things than death here.β βI will not be told where to stand! I will not be told what to say.β βYouβre gonna have to do better than fear!β
X. Light Up The Night
βSo either way youβre a casualty.β βCut me down or let me run, either way itβs all gonna burn.β βThere is a city that this darkness canβt hide.β βMaybe you and I, we can still make it right.β βItβs like theyβve gathered up the city, they sold it to the Devil and now Itβs gone to hell and they wonder how.β βThere is a fire that will burn through the streets of the city.β βYou and I. We can bring back the light.β Β Β Β
XII. Here Comes The Arm
βYou canβt just set the world at someone elseβs feet and not get trampled underneath.β βThat debt was meant for me.β Β Β βI canβt undo it now.β βI still have work to do..β Β
Biker: I thought we agreed, no more guns.
Jacket holding gun: Oh? Is that what we agreed to? I thought we said "no gum".
Biker: But you're also chewing gum!
Jacket: I'm a wild card.

Β It was amazing how different he seemed in a matter of moments. She could admit, a smile looked really good on him. She almost laughed at the awkward way he stumbled through his sentences. Hard to believe he was a dangerous man. He just seemed like a nervous teenager asking a girl to prom now. Her smile grew and she found herself getting more endeared to him. Why did she only like the bad guys? He seemed to sweet in this moment to really be bad. She was hungry. Detoxing had left her sick as hell and she had hardly eaten.Β
βI was kidding.β She told him.Β βIβd love to go out to breakfast with you.β She stood up, a smile still on her face.Β βJust let me get dressed.β
βOkay.β
As she prepared, so did he. He departed and waited in his car. Before she arrived, he had a moment to think. He wasnβt usually the type to question himself, but in this moment he found himself asking the questionΒ βWhat the hell are you doing with this girl?β Β The thoughtΒ seemed too lucid to have come from his head. It was like an unseen passenger sat beside him, guiding him, reminding him who he was, and what he had done.Β
When she finally arrived, he made himself forget for a moment.
βReady. . .?β
You told me youβve seen it all before
Iβve been there, Iβve seen my hopes and dreams are lying on the ground
Iβve seen the sky just begin to fall
