While Hinata was busy trying to calm down, he took his hand to the top of his head, and measured it back and forth. But it froze to a stop the moment the other bent down more toward his level. What were they doing? Squatting? Maybe they were making fun of his height? He was paranoid as ever, he hated having a height complex. It taunted his mind forever, and even past his high school adventure he hasn’t even grown an inch! How infuriating.
The strands on his hair twitched the moment he heard the other respond. Were they nervous? This lanky, six feet guy, nervous as he was? Unless it was just because of this awkward situation. He had to pause and progress everything happening. His tiny brain could only handle so much, after all. Once he finally did process it all, he waved his hands tremendously, flailing them about like a child would around their mother.
❛ Only 17?! That’s not. Fair. At all…! ❜ why was life never fair? And here he goes, shouting on the top of his lungs, only to get a ton of ‘shh’s’ from him. He piped down soon as he noticed he was in trouble. Man, libraries sure were strange, how did people manage to be this quiet as if it were testing time? Studying was too much for him to comprehend.
When he finally stopped flailing, he stared at the book that the other grabbed. The lobster looked ready to be fed to him in an instant. He wanted it badly, it was clear as his mouth was drooling slightly. His stomach also rumbled a little, which interrupted the awkward silence.
❛ I want some of that too but I would probably burn it somehow… ❜ could lobster get burned? Wasn’t it boiled or something? He didn’t quite know how lobster worked, but it was fishy.
❛ I-I’m Hinata. Shoyo Hinata. Sorry for freaking out at you Miste—Jae InYoon! ❜ well he totally screwed that up. He was trying to just say Jae In, but the name slurred over his tongue at his attempt. Calling him Jae would be just as easy. Or maybe raven boy, since his hair was clearly black and it stood out with how tall he was.
❛ I need help though. I’m not here for lobster, m-much as I want it! ❜ he held onto his stomach as he tried to hide his hunger.
Somehow it felt as though he was being observed. The other’s gaze was very intense and his sense for exaggeration would even claim that his very soul was being exposed right now. Of course it was nothing quite as grand, just an overly sensitive mind and bucket loads of awkwardness in stressing situations.
Jae In shifted a bit uncomfortably on his feet, and the moment the other opened his mouth and raised his voice, he even jolted in surprise at the sudden noise. He was technically the part time librarian, and yet the hushing commands came from patrons rather than him. “N...Not fair?” he repeated confused, not understanding what his age had to do with anything? There was so much this person said and did that threw him off, but soon another sound filled the quaint silence that ruled within the library -- a low growl.
Was that... this guy’s stomach? Confusion rose within Jae In until he finally glanced down at the book in his hands and saw the title and cover of a very attractively arranged lobster, much matching the other’s words. And all of a sudden it came, and he was entirely merciless in its grip. It started as a bubbly sensation in his stomach, slowly rising up through his throat and unable to contain it, Jae In started laughing.
This naturally resulted in even more hushing hisses from the people around them, and he did his best to quench his sound, but instead gasping hiccups left him, which he tried to mask with a hand. Why was it even so funny? He wasn’t sure, but something had hit him just in the right spot. Maybe the butchering of his name. Maybe the lobster. “I-I’m sorry, haha...” he stuttered out in between laughs and had to clutch at his stomach, attempting to take in deep breaths. Fortunately he could relatively quickly easily get it under control although he was afraid that wasn’t going to be a permanent thing if anything else stroke him as funny.
“Whew... Sorry about that...” His voice was now even lower than before as he spoke again, almost to make up for what had happened by being extra quiet. “So it’s, uhm, S-Syeoyeo-ssi then?” Not knowing the other’s age, Jae In found it better to use a general polite honorific (plus even if he was the older one it felt weird addressing a stranger casually) and he tried to mimic the Japanese name in sounds he knew from the Korean language. It worked out satisfyingly enough he supposed. “How did you know I work here though? I mean, I don’t mind helping you or anything, but I’m not on duty today so I’m kind of curious. And what are you looking for?”
