the quartet , stuck on an uncharted island together. there was still some establishing in regards to an extensive rapport with the indivuduals known as higekiri and allen , but pre - development with hinata saved little kurosawa from the fear of not knowing anyone in her party. AT THIS MOMENT , a desperate islander seeks assistance , requesting a young one is found. though she retained her post standing behind the orangette , curled digits half - concealed the concern and worry that contorts pouted lips. heartstrings tugged , ruby was quite elated to know they’d take on the mission. in no situation should family be left behind.
the little one absconded without warning , a child is not one to leave their parent for long , internal mindframe begins to conjure various theories —— only to be interjected with hinata’s demand , prompting own cranium to turn at the sight and find a safe spot behind the familiar acquaintance , ❛ eh… ? a - are th - those real?! ❜ jades wildly shift left and right : the one named allen bearing claws , the one higekiri speaking freely about demons ( ah , she gets enough of yoshiko - chan saying such things , perhaps they’d spoken… ? ). while the duo were quite the animated characters , assurance that hinata wouldn’t put her in any dangerous situations intentionally initiated calmness in the matter ; mayhaps , they don’t seem too bad , right?
❛ h - hm? ❜ once again , she’s at attention , disbanding from further internal deliberations and looking towards the elder. it made sense : both higekiri and allen made valid points , it was worth the chance for exploration. she heeds his warning , a hand reaching out to take his as a comfort method : something hanamaru and dia did to help her , he was more than likely rattled about the situation at hand —— she could sympathize. ❛ sh - shoyo - kun , would it … be better if we stayed like this? if it’s scary … we’ll all be right here , so you don’t have to be nervous. we’ll … we’ll make everything better and be back in koi before you know it. ❜ wishful thinking or not , it was still candid encouragement. modestly guiding the orangette in a comfortable walk behind the two men , lips struggedly part —— voicing her own opinion at times was such an arduous feat , but it could be beneficial at a time like this for all to hear and even consider , maybe. ❛ hey … you guys … depending on how … mischievous the child is … it could be possible that … h - he’s … hiding? ❜ a pause , she’s trying to register more confidence in ejecting said presumption , ❛ most children … don’t like to be away from their parents for too long. and … he ’ s probably thinking he found a really suitable hiding spot. s - so … if he is in the village … we could … try thinking like a kid would in hide - and - seek. somewhere … like a closed space , or if there is an alley , maybe? if the … thought helps. ❜

Steadily, he blazed their way through the foliage, sharp claws slashing through this never-ending thicket. It was tiring work, and he was not used to wielding his arm in such constant and repetitive movements (it was meant for war, not mowing!). Regardless, he had a stubbornness that tenaciously dug in its heels, and it would not allow any fatigue to express itself physically or verbally, this brand of self-injurious pride pushing him to endeavor all the more. He justified it as necessary for the safety of both the lost child and his team, for by taking this quest they assumed the responsibility of returning the boy unharmed, and failure to do so meant that his group would suffer the fatigue of the search and no reprieve. He could not allow such an outcome.
From behind, Allen heard Ruby speak up, but her distance in combination with her hiding behind Hinata made the words a bit difficult to hear; he gathered the gist of her message, though. Turning slightly so that she could see his face, he gave her a reassuring smile. “Thank you, Ruby. That’s very helpful, and I think you’re right.” (After all, if he were in the child’s position, he would do anything possible to ensure that nobody could find him.) “I doubt he’ll be willing to come with us, so we must be careful to not drive him further away.” Of the group, the vagrant considered Ruby and Hinata to be the best fit for reigning the child in, as he figured his own strange appearance would cause fright, and Higekiri … well, at times, some strange things leave his mouth (not to mention the scary teeth!). But if they were met with resistance, he had ways of forcing compliance.
Through the underbrush he could eventually espy a wider backdrop of light, indicating the presence of some type of clearing. Haste renewed, he cut through the remaining barrier that stood in their way, revealing a break in the trees that harbored an overgrown and abandoned village– one that bordered on being a small city. It expanded much further than he had imagined, and its size made him question why he was unable to see it from the sky.
“Oh…” It appears they have their work cut out for them…! He turned to face his group.
“Well… I can look from the rooftops. If he’s hiding in an alley, I should be able to see him.” As he is not particularly the leader type, he didn’t go further to distribute responsibility to his teammates; rather, his plan of action stated, with a running start he hopped atop the closest building … and began the search!

Higekiri remembers all too clearly how he received the name ‘Onikiri’, his master having a habit of lopping of demon’s arms which in turn, passed on to the tachi’s own swordplay habits. Well, that and the want to kill one on sight. Higekiri was a little curious if it was the same for his twin brother and tsuchigumos, though he supposed he would have to ask him if he ever joined him in this city. The blond blinked at the girl’s question of if demons were real or not. ❝ They could be, if ones negative ties to this world are strong enough. So let’s be big-hearted and take things easy, yeah~? ❞ he mused, at least attempting to cheer her up.
❝ Amethyst does have a point..❞ My, wasn’t she a frail princess. It was the duty of a sword with such nobility as his to watch out for her, and the lion-maned one too, right? Although he was conspicuous of the arm, he supposed the beansprout could look after himself. Higekiri was a strong sword, as expected of a Genji blade, but his attacks were much stronger when paired with Hizamaru’s. Though it would pose a problem if his sword got damaged with no one with powers like Saniwa’s around, since his sword’s condition correlated with his physical one, being one and the same and all. Still, Higekiri wasn’t going to worry, a task like this should be no problem.
Once they arrived at the city, Higekiri smiled at Allen. ❝ Very well. I’ll take to the ground with these two to search, and should we come across someone or the boy, I’ll give a big shout!❞

He nodded at Ruby’s words when she asked if Allen’s claws were real. They were indeed, in fact, real as real could be. He could still remember his initial reaction when he first encountered Allen’s claws. Eventually, he’ll get a kick out of them and call them cool as ever and give Allen more encouragement. He didn’t want to let his friend down by calling him strange things.
Hinata’s thoughts stopped when he felt a warm grasp against the palm of his hand. Frail fingers—those were definitely Ruby’s. His face turned bright red, and he tried his best to hide it from the other two, but he did feel better. What a magical touch. Girls were magic. ❛ T-t-thankshu, Ruby-chan, ❜ he stumbled, but he was nervous, so it was okay. He just hoped his hand wasn’t sweaty as usual.
When Ruby started to talk and give the suggestion, he nodded at her words, but he wasn’t sure how to speak up and reply. The other two boys were able to do it for him. Hinata did give Higekiri a glance when he said Amethyst, however. One of these days, he’ll get their names right, Hinata was certain of it. Though he did mention he got his brother’s name wrong often, so it was least likely, but he could always hope. Before Hinata could say anything to Allen, the white-haired boy ran like the speed of light. Was that really his running speed? He knew Allen ran fast, but not that fast. It amazed Hinata greatly! Maybe one day, he’ll be able to run that fast, too. Allen’s speed and Ruby’s enthusiasm gave Hinata a boost of encouragement.
❛ R-roger!! I’ll help with the shout! ❜ while Hinata wanted to run too, he didn’t want to leave Ruby behind. He started to tug her along and head into the abandoned village. ❛ Can you really shout loud, Higekiri-san? ❜ he was curious. Higekiri was pretty soft spoken around him and the others, it was hard for Hinata to picture such a thing.
❛ Ahh—Ruby, you can let go of my hand now, we should start our search! ❜ he sounded eager to move faster on his own. Thankfully, his stomach has settled.
When he separated himself from Ruby, he started to look high and low for any signs of the boy. He’s gotta be around somewhere, perhaps further in the village? Maybe Allen will have better luck.
