rank all the crows based on who janske prefers the most and why PRETTY PLEASE IM DYING TO KNOWWWW
ELI HELLO i’m so sorry this is so long i genuinely cannot stop talking 😭 i kept thinking of new things to say but also i think i need to cap myself next time…
1. inej!! janske may chases kaz’s approval, but the only opinion she truly cares about and the only person she can’t survive without is inej. if she’s happy, she wants inej to know. if she’s sad, she wants inej to know. if she’s feeling anything under the sun, inej has to be aware of it. she’d glue herself to her ankle if she could.
inej and janske sleep in the same bed and hold the same fears, and being girls together in both the barrel and the crow club has made them intertwined-sewn-together (not a lot just forever…) she’s janske’s idol and sister and best friend all in one, and janske adores her.
2. kaz gets second place (he’s raging trust) because of how much janske wants him to love her, and how important it is to her when she finally realises that he does. he’s not always the kindest to her, but when she’s at her worst, he’s the one who makes her feel safe and stable. ordinary janske needs inej the very most, but CK janske wouldn’t have gotten by without kaz, and that’s important to the both of them.
i think it also works out quite nicely, because they both have inej at the forefront of their worlds, and then each other next in line 🙂↕️
3. it has to be jesper in third, though i think he gets regularly booted out by other people whenever he’s being annoying and then eventually returned to his rightful spot. because, even though he likes to tease janske, he’s also really, really kind to her in a very deliberate way that not a lot of the other crows think to be.
inej is kind to janske instinctually, and kaz is kind to her whenever he can bring himself to be so, but jesper goes out of his way to be softer with janske than with the rest of the world, and to notice when something isn’t right with her. he gets extra points for that because it doesn’t always come naturally to him, but he tries very hard 💯
4. nina and matthias kind of tie for fourth, truthfully, but i think it’s still predominantly nina’s roll. janske has known her longer and she’s a much more palatable person. besides, they both enjoy waffles to a degree that kaz is concerned about, so i think that bonds them.
i also think janske especially likes nina because she’s extroverted — much like her — but she’s also able to speak her mind, and she’s a lot more confident in herself. janske definitely aspires a lot towards that. nina gives her hope for what she might able to be when she’s older, and she also makes janske laugh a lot, which is very necessary in times like theirs.
5. janske wasn’t keen on matthias originally, namely because he was unkind to nina and because he frightened her, but he’s hugely grown on her since then. i think they can both bond over the fact that, deep down, they’re scared children who miss their home, no matter how tough that home was to be in.
they also mesh quite well together, surprisingly. matthias isn’t super chatty but he likes to listen to janske talk, and he’s patient enough not to be bothered by the incessant nature of it, and janske just likes to chatter away to someone for as long as possible. neither of them are really comfortable with silence, anymore, so they’re definitely good for one another 🙂↕️
6. it feels very wrong but also very right to put wylan in sixth, bc janske can’t bear him when she first meets him, but he also lives in a different plane to the other crows, where he can be her favourite but also her least favourite and also somewhere in between all at once.
wylan and janske are the most obvious mirrors of each other. they’ve both had similar childhoods and have found themselves in similar places, but they also have the most trouble understanding one another, and they’re not willing to try, either. i think they’d be very close in later life, but they also need to blossom into their own people before that, and not just father-shaped wounds that the other keeps making worse.
