“
If we think only of ourselves, forget about other people, then our minds occupy very small area. Inside that small area, even tiny problem appears very big. But the moment you develop a sense of concern for others, you realize that, just like ourselves, they also want happiness; they also want satisfaction. When you have this sense of concern, your mind automatically widens. At this point, your own problems, even big problems, will not be so significant. The result? Big increase in peace of mind. So, if you think only of yourself, only your own happiness, the result is actually less happiness. You get more anxiety, more fear.
—Dalai Lama XIV
The Wisdom of Forgiveness
The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.
Buddha (via purplebuddhaquotes)
Buddhism is not concerned just with private destiny, but with the lives and consciousness of all beings. Any attempt to understand Buddhism apart from its social dimension is fundamentally a mistake. Until Western Buddhists understand this, their embrace of Buddhism will not help very much in the efforts to bring about meaningful and positive social change, or even in their struggle to transform their ego.

Other people can’t cause us to be impatient unless we let them do so. In other words, others don’t make us impatient. We make ourselves impatient, through our expectations and demands, fixated attachments and stuckness.

“Without your possessions, success, fame—who are you? You don’t know. You are your name, you are your fame, you are your prestige, your power. But other than these who are you? So this whole possessiveness becomes your identity. It gives you a false sense of being. That’s the ego.”
— Osho (via thebuddhistmind)
Refuse all thoughts except one: the thought ‘I am’. The mind will rebel in the beginning, but with patience and perseverance it will yield and keep quiet. Once you are quiet, things will begin to happen spontaneously and quite naturally, without any interference on your part.
Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

When we stop fighting with ourselves, we aren’t creating anymore conflict in our mind. Then our mind can for the first time relax and be still. Then for the first time our consciousness can become whole and unfragmented. Then total attention can be given to all of our thoughts and feelings. And then there will be found a gentleness and a goodness in us that can embrace all that is been given in the world. Then a deep love for everything will be the result of this deep attention. For this total attention, this soft and pure consciousness that we are, is nothing but Love itself.
Jiddu Krishnamurti

There is nothing that you can do on your own to get to the King. When you fully acknowledge your total powerlessness and become grateful for just what is, you become a sanctuary. It is then that the King enters and takes the throne.
Francis Lucille (via letgoness)
When I say be creative, I don’t mean that you should all go and become great painters and great poets. I simply mean let your life be a painting, let your life be a poem.

Online Rumors & Accusations
…should always be taken with a grain of salt.
It’s incredibly frightening that, in the age of social media, anybody can make a claim about someone’s behavior, views, or agenda, and somehow, a significant number of people will find this to be evidence enough to go on emotionally charged, malicious crusades against these individuals, despite having literally no direct experience with anybody involved.
Most people seem to be completely incapable of entertaining multiple conclusions about a person or topic, and so, because they cannot endure the temporary insecurity of just not knowing something, they irresponsibly justify assumptions, and immediately, almost compulsively, identify with a particular party, rather than simply remaining mindful of the scenario.
Nowadays, there’s always a convenient story or rumor to channel your own frustrations through, or exploit for your own peer validation, but if we remain so casually irresponsible in this regard, we will ostracize others via our misconceptions, and grant power to those who seek to oppress us.
To see Reality is as simple as to see one’s face in a mirror. Only, the mirror must be clear and true. A quiet mind, undistorted by desires and fears, free from ideas and opinions, clear on all the levels, is needed to reflect the Reality. Be clear and quiet; alert and detached, all else will happen by itself.
Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Do not try to become anything. Do not make yourself into anything. Do not be a meditator. Do not become enlightened. When you sit, let it be. What you walk, let it be. Grasp at nothing. Resist nothing.
AJAHN CHAH (via purplebuddhaquotes)
We must be willing to be completely ordinary people, which means accepting ourselves as we are without trying to become greater, purer, more spiritual, more insightful. If we can accept our imperfections as they are, quite ordinarily, then we can use them as part of the path. But if we try to get rid of our imperfections, then they will be enemies, obstacles on the road to our ‘self-improvement’.
CHOGYAM TRUNGPA (via purplebuddhaquotes)
Sensitivity and toughness are not mutually exclusive. It takes legitimate strength to allow vulnerability and the challenging experiences that comes with it. Because our emotivity is part of our humanness, to numb ourselves is to lose part of our basic sanity. Endeavor to de-desensitize yourself. #spirituality #inspiration #sanity #peace #freedom #yoga

“Don’t be too quick to interpret the moment. Just keep quiet. My encouragement would always be: never think anything is against you, everything is blessing. Why should it be different? Just be quiet. Let it all work itself out.”
