"But you're already working so hard! Well enough for the both of us, I'd say. I'm content to watch and wonder at your drive and determination!"
"Nobody ever got better by slacking off!"

“I didn’t mean to be so sullen!” she puffed up her cheeks with a small tint of rouge on. Noticing the small invitation, she came closer to Zhi Lowering her body as she reached closer and closer to the table, which soon entered into a sitting position. A smile soon surfaced to her lips, which looked like a perfect pair with her brother’s.
Ah, that was the spirit! A smile brightened the place nicely, especially from such a cute little sister! Company was always a pleasure, especially from family. Well, depending on who the family was, anyway, but overall, it was quite enjoyable.
"Well, meaning or not, you seem to have remedied such quickly! Tell me, I've been gone too long. How have you fared, little flower? No one bullying you, I hope?"
"They’re even better when they are true, Zhi." She laughed as well, and she figured she would nip the topic in the bud before it could ever bloom and be destroyed by the answer. No, for this, she would lie. "I know what you’re thinking. My health has been fine. There’s no reason to worry anymore." At least that’s what she had been telling everyone. Now, it was only when she strained herself too much that it really acted up, though if anyone ever found out that… she would stay confined forever.
She needed to find a way to overcome it completely.
"I’ve heard some of the songs from Shu, but not from Wu." Really, songs were one of the few things that allowed her to imagine the world outside, no matter how chaotic they may truly be. She could imagine, however. "Sing? Of course I’ll sing for you, Brother. And don’t belittle yourself. I always love when you play the Guzheng. It’s far better than anything I could play on it." Yes, singing, another escape she had when she could, though it was typically only for family. That, along with dancing, but for now, she would just sing. "Do you mind singing it first so that I may at least know the tune?"
Ah, well, you could never hide anything from Mei. His worry was clearly apparent to her, and perhaps it stung a bit that she was able to see through him so. Still, he smiled, brows raising. She was doing fine, so he could be at ease. Well, truth her words may have been, he had a feeling she was leaving out something he should know... But, what she chose to share was up to her- he knew that much courtesy, at the very least. The princess could manage herself... She would be fine.
"Aah, me? Sing? You overestimate me, Mei. I'm quite certain I sound akin to a dying goose should I attempt to hold a note longer than a second." He laughed, though to be fair he was not nearly as terrible as he said. If anything, he was utterly average; able to carry a tune, but not something one would wish to hear often. "Well, your reasoning is sound, however! I will indulge your sudden burst of masochism, but at a later time to minimize casualties."Or, so to speak, his way of asking to do it privately because he thought singing openly was embarrassing.
Meanwhile, he pulled something from his sleeve, presenting it with a dramatic wave, as if it were a fantastic trick. In his hand, an ornate hair comb of lavender jade and dark wood, carved into the shape of plum blossoms and marked with opal settings and gold engravings. "As an aside, I bestow upon you this, to be considered my most sincere of apologies for denying you the pleasures of my company! Supposedly, it was crafted in Shu, but regardless of its origins its a rather lovely piece! I bought two, one for mother and one for yourself. I hope mother would find her offering something worthy of forgiveness; I haven't written to her at all!"

Bringing his hands together with a single clap, he beamed with delight, his jewelry clinking gently as he took another step towards the window. The fact that this man was a total stranger seemed to mean little to him - when he spoke, he addressed him with the same jovial tone he might have used with a long-lost friend.
"A pity, isn’t it? If I didn’t know any better, I could’ve sworn that everyone packed up and left while I wasn’t paying attention!" he said. "But it seems that fate saw fit to find me company after all - and you, if you don’t mind me saying, seem in need of diversion yourself!"
"Well, you're quite the perceptive one, my good man!" Zhi laughed, fan pulled from his sleeve to hide his grin. Well, that was incentive enough to move, wasn't it? Basic decency, a trait many would say he very well lacked, demanded he carry the conversation an level ground at the very least, especially if this stranger so easily offered a distraction.
Of course, the handsome man could be a killer or criminal of some sort, and the prince would likely find his life in some form of jeopardy or another... But that was interesting as well, it its own... Twisted sort of way.Though his window was high on the second floor he easily landed on his feet once sliding off the ledge, a feat none so great in particular, considering there were so many to drop from heights far greater in the fields of battle. Despite this, once grounded, he gave a garnished bow, as if it were a fanciful trick he just performed, fan lifting again to half conceal his smile.
"My name is Zhi, friend. Who might you be? Merchant or killer, it seems you've been graciously awarded the pleasure of my attention- though such an honor varies in opinion, of course."
“Just looking at you is makin’ me sober.”

“Eeeh… What do you mean by that, Brother Zhi?” the delicate hibiscus questioned the brother, confused about his speech. Hua was not use to this type of speech, since she was taught to speak formerly and directly however, she stayed quiet, never really making use of that dialect.
"Aah, thats right! Humor and sarcasm is the one bane upon you. What I meant was you're too reticent and, dare I say it, serious! The most delightful buzz from my drink died upon seeing such a lonely looking countenance!" Zhi explained easily, waving off her confusion with a flippant flourish of his fan. He motioned her to sit by him, though was perfectly fine whether she took the invitation or not. "Unless you find yourself busy, surely you'd take the time to keep a fool drunk company, yes?"
In actuality, she knew, and knew just how to deal with it most times behind a facade of innocence and kindness. Truly she was not any way close to the former, but the latter was something she was guilty of to a fault. Sure she acted out more as a child when he drank, but for the most part, she was much more mellow now.
"You’re always pleasant company, èrgē. I can’t imagine a time when you’re not!”
Even now, her laughter caused a slightly airy tone to her breathing, but she took the offered arm, for once feeling at ease.
Cao Pi may have been the first to bring her outside, but Cao Zhi was the one she felt she could confide in more.
"Please! Lead the way, Zhi!"
"Ah, its always nice to be hear such words!" Zhi laughed, open fan touching his lips lightly to hide his smile, though perhaps it was also to hide the drink on his breath. He began walking, making sure to keep a leisurely pace. He wanted to inquire into her health, but he knew such a thing she'd likely heard a thousand times before. It wouldn't do for him to start with something so boring. So instead, it was time to start with something that would surely entertain her!
"Have you heard the songs from Wu, meimei? They're quite lively and cheery! I couldn't help but snatch up a songbook I stumbled across in the markets a week or so prior." Well, perhaps it had been more than that. A month, maybe? Regardless, the most important thing was that he had it, wasn't it? "Perhaps I might pull out the guzheng if you'd allow me the pleasure of hearing you sing? Of course, my mediocre skills as a musician will do no justice to your voice, but I'd enjoy the opportunity, regardless."

"I’m sorry, but really, the only times you ever call me that is when you are somewhat intoxicated… It’s like a tell-tale sign that you are, but… words could be used at any point, I suppose…
And it was a promise of sorts. At least to me it was. A man should be a man of his word, not just of his promises. If you think about it, any man can say words, but to have those words become truth, that is the important part… that is where the power lies. Will you walk with me a bit?”
"O-oh. Well, then my sincerest apologies." Well shit, she actually believed him. His little sister was really too kind. Now he felt terrible, and frankly was terrible in all honesty, and her words following hit every mark they needed. He swallowed back his guilt and grinned instead. It wasn't like he completely lied... He was just a tad tipsy. Four cups of wine did that.
"A walk sounds wonderful, Mei! Hopefully I can be pleasant company, then? You're right, it really has been too long. Its time we get reacquainted! My lady?" He extended his arm to her with a silly little flourish, smiling widely.

“Well, Saturday gives what Sunday steals And a child is born on his brother’s heels Come Sunday morning, the first-born is dead In a shoebox tied with a ribbon of red-“
A distant, rumbling baritone traveled up from the streets below as Jiayi made his way down the street, a melody on his lips and a contented gleam in his golden eyes. His hands were shoved deep into the pockets of his robes; for all the oppressive humidity that seemed to hang over the land like a damp shroud, the stagnant weather did little to sour the fortune-teller’s mood.
Even the fact that business had been poor today wasn’t enough to bring him down. These late summer days were always slow times - in the stifling heat, few people were willing to leave the comfort of their homes, which meant far fewer customers for him to choose from. But it was no matter. He’d retreat somewhere cool to recuperate from the day’s losses and be back during the night with double the effort. It was just a matter of-
The thought stopped, and the tune died on his tongue as his gaze traveled up to a face at the window nearby. Slowing down, he raised a hand to the man in a friendly wave, his smile broadening.
"Ahh, good afternoon, Sir! I didn’t expect to see anyone else around on a day like this!"
To say he was lost in his own thoughts would have been severely overestimating the term 'thought'. It was more akin to oppressively empty nothingness, something akin perhaps to what monks considered excellent for meditation. Frankly speaking, however, the prince was out of it, so the song from below hardly registered in his ears until it stopped abruptly. He blinked, focus returning, just as a voice called out from below.
Gaze drifting downward, raise a brow at what he assumed to be... A very well dressed commoner. A merchant, perhaps? Regardless, it was best to answer; it wouldn't do to be rude. As such, Zhi smiled, raising a hand as he greeted the other.
"Good afternoon yourself! I could say the same of you, running about on a day so stifling as this." Honestly, only a madman would gallivant about on such a day, but then again Zhi was likely dramaticing the sitiuation. He oft did that when as bored as he was. The weather likely wasn't even so terrible. Still, it seemed as if the heavens had presented him with something, and certainly this man grabbed at his interest for the moment... If only vaguely. But vague interest was interest still, and so the prince considered dropping down to have a proper conversation not bellowed from such a distance.
Ah, but, that would require moving...
"You’ve been drinking again, haven’t you?! You never call me ‘darling’ or ‘lovely’ unless you’re drunk! Zhi! You promised you would cut back!"
"A- aha- ahaha~! N-now, Mei! Could it not be that I merely wished to fasten terms of endearment upon my relation to you? It wounds me to know you suspect me so!
...Also, frankly, it was not a 'promise', per say. I made no such oath, I merely agreed that yes, I should cut back. Not that it has any say on how sober I am. Because... I am. Really."
"For once? For a while now. See, you would’ve known that had you come to visit sooner, Zhi!"
"Oh! Is that so? My sincerest apologies, darling, lovely sister of mine!"

harmonious philosophy; ☯
Most wholly practice either Confucianism or Taoism in these tumultuous times, though as expected, Zhi follows a philosophy that mixes both, and even then he does not follow it strictly. Though raised around many strictly Confucian practitioners, he later found at a young age during studies that Taoism struck a chord in him, and began to study it quite earnestly.
Of course, this being Zhi, he did not follow all the lessons to the letter, instead mixing and kneading and cutting out parts of both Taoism and Confucianism until it was a combination that suited what kind of philosophy he wished to follow, a philosophy that truly harmonizes with oneself and the world. This has garnered… Various reactions from those around him. Generally, however, most leave it be, because really, its Zhi. When isn’t he doing something odd?
Always one to advocate tranquility, this mixed philosophy prioritizes harmony and acceptance extended to all people, where conflict is to be avoided, but also acknowledged and accepted, where serenity, though not necessarily peace, is the aim. This, of course, clashes with the reality of the world, but Zhi truly believes that all can achieve a serene state in harmony, even opposite kinds. For this reason, he has a certain respect for the Taijitu and the concepts of Yin and Yang, and his eventual hope that the world will reach serenity. In fact, he often has the symbol somewhere on his person, and sometimes one would find him teaching[read; rambling] companions about the importance of balance.
Bring up his drinking habits, though, and suddenly he’s headed in another direction.
seal of affluence; ☯
By the time Zhi was born, Cao Cao, in addition to family wealth in general, had secured himself a comfortable position generally free of monetary worries, ergo Zhi grew up without much want of anything. Not to say he was spoiled- Though this opinion may vary, considering being born in upper class in general- as Cao Cao very much had his children learn to do things many others their age wouldn’t think about for years to come.
While while he and his older siblings, Cao Ang and Cao Pi, showed a generally equal aptitude for these things, Zhi was lacking in motivation, far more interested in literature and daydreaming, while Ang showed the most motivation and Pi more self centered. With these two before him and their likelyhood of succeeding their father in the first place, Zhi knew he’d never have a chance even if he did want the responsibility. As such, Zhi instead focused more on the luxury aspect of life, something that would come to be infamous. It is not hard to tell he is of an affluent family, for even as simple as his usual ‘outing’ clothing may be, they still are of a quality that is obviously beyond any commoner.
His famed drinking tendencies aside, he is an avid collector of the arts and beauty, his biggest particular collections being fans and umbrellas, finding their functionality and artistry something to be admired. Its not odd to see him with a different fan every time, and he has a habit of dressing as lavishly as any other noble with the funds he has. He has a critical eye for fashion, ergo quietly judges the dress of others at banquets and even warriors on the battlefield if he’s somehow in one. He’ll make sly remarks and snark politely about these things, but generally keeps comments to himself. The only ones free of his scathing commentary are those without the luxuries he has, ergo most of the peasantry.
